There is a lot of overlooked talent in this area. My guess is there is that of course some will leave FVU for MYS GA. Also there are some top notch players at the RL level that may be on the cusp for ECNL but live too far or can't break into the ECNL level at their club. Arlington is a great example. There are a bunch of 2010, 2011 and 2012 RL players at Arlington that will likely try out for MYS now because let's be honest, what does RL really get you? It's just a money grab. |
+1 GA is making huge strides for a league that is only 4 years old. ECNL for girls is already 15 years old. At this pace, I agree that ECNL will likely not be the League it is today due to changing landscape. |
lol sure. Travel soccer is stable. Pick the club you think is the most stable and wait six months. If you have been around this for a few years you will know what I am talking about. Oh and wait till you find out how the college portal is changing the landscape for recruiting. |
This is a good example. SYC has completely full 1st teams and 2nd (GA2) teams. Trust me, a lot of those players would jump ship if they thought there was room on a new GA 1st team elsewhere (same applies to ECNL). I think Arlington RL players in those years will defiantly register and tryout for McLean GA. They are likely tired of playing on RL with knowing there is little chance to get on their ECNL team because the rosters are so full. |
Dear MYS board members,
Is the 3rd time the charm? First you aligned with SYC for the betterment of the Girls program with no impact, and perhaps some detriment to the boys program as their better players went to MLS/SYC. Second, you caved into ECNL and BRAVE by forming FVU. Now, you are going it alone (again) in the hopes of building back the once storied girls program while trying to gain some credibility for the boys program (Tier 2?). Thanks for trying and being persistent, but you will need to convince me and others that this is a worthy switch and worth the $$$. Signed, former VA Union parent(s) |
What about coaches? Is Nadir, Brent and Matt staying? |
But I think MYS only got GA Aspire. Careful what you are trying out for. |
This is minformation, STOP. Press release clearly outlines two teams one in GA one GAAspire |
Clearly? No. |
No it doesn’t. They may have two teams but the press release absolutely does not “clearly outline two teams . . . .” Perhaps it’s just bad drafting. If so the club could easily clear this up on their website. Crickets. |
GA is 5 years away at the earliest from truly competing. Any kids 12 or older will not get the same attention in GA. ECNL has taken the best clubs from the GA for the last few years, and they need many more clubs to move over to move the needle. If you think otherwise, it isn't very reasonable. Mclean and Loudoun were not genuinely competing nationally in ECNL mid-tier clubs. |
For Current ECNL Players: We understand that this decision impacts many players within our club who are involved in ECNL. The opportunities available through the GA will offer a high level of competition, with exposure and growth opportunities. Our technical staff and coaches will be working closely with players and families to ensure a seamless transition into this new framework. [b] Clear enough for you, two teams! |

For ECNL-R Players: We recognize the significant commitment our ECNL-R players have made to the club, and we are excited about the new pathways that will be open to them moving forward. The transition will be thoughtfully managed to ensure that everyone remains on track to achieve their full potential. Our girls' teams will compete in Girls Academy Aspire, a division within the Girls Academy that offers a structured environment for player development and competition. |
Short-term ECNL is probably better, so U15+ just stay. Long term, ECNL is dead, so U13 and lower I would probably jump ship.
ECNL keeps saying they have the best recruiting etc but that's bc of clubs/players not because of anything the league is doing. ECNL is a bunch of rich boys league, it has an expiration date. |
Can you not read? This does not say they have two teams. You might infer that this is what they meant, even though they didn’t actually say it, or you can take their actual language (“our girls’ teams will compete in Girls Academy Aspire”) at face value and speculate that they are being cute. However, the club is clearly monitoring this thread and realized their sloppiness, as the website does now explicitly say they will have two teams at each age level. |
