McLean leaving FVU

Is the 3rd time the charm? First you aligned with SYC for the betterment of the Girls program with no impact, and perhaps some detriment to the boys program as their better players went to MLS/SYC. Second, you caved into ECNL and BRAVE by forming FVU. Now, you are going it alone (again) in the hopes of building back the once storied girls program while trying to gain some credibility for the boys program (Tier 2?).

Thanks for trying and being persistent, but you will need to convince me and others that this is a worthy switch and worth the $$$.

+1

McLean’s leadership doesn’t deserve credit for this decision, nor can they be trusted. The timing couldn’t be worse. If they intended to leave ECNL, the logical move would have been to do so last year when they could transition into MLS and GA with an established coaching staff and player base. Many staff and families were calling for the club to take a stand back then, yet leadership failed to act. Now, they’re essentially starting from scratch, forced to compete with FVU and other clubs for both coaches and players—without any leverage. Does anyone truly believe they can pull this off? I certainly don’t.

ECNL has taken the best clubs from the GA for the last few years, and they need many more clubs to move over to move the needle. If you think otherwise, it isn't very reasonable. Mclean and Loudoun were not genuinely competing nationally in ECNL mid-tier clubs.

lol. Of course you think any pick for GA is terrible. What about the move that ECNL boys just made. I bet you thought that was awesome!!!

MYS Team 1 - GA
MYS Team 2 Aspire

Where are they going to get a team 1 from? They only have ECRL teams which definitely won’t be able to compete in GA.

They are hoping the old Mclean kids that went to Union will return.

There is a lot of overlooked talent in this area. My guess is there is that of course some will leave FVU for MYS GA. Also there are some top notch players at the RL level that may be on the cusp for ECNL but live too far or can't break into the ECNL level at their club. Arlington is a great example. There are a bunch of 2010, 2011 and 2012 RL players at Arlington that will likely try out for MYS now because let's be honest, what does RL really get you? It's just a money grab.

DYOR. go read some books or back to community college to brush up on your English reading.

Go to McLean website for GA ID Sessions info. It is clear.

"MYS is excited to announce that we are joining the Girls Academy (GA) for the 2025-2026 season! We will be forming two teams in each U13-U19 age group to compete in this league - a top-tier GA team and a second-tier GA Aspire team. ID Sessions have been scheduled and start the week of February 24. Players who would like to be evaluated for a roster spot should REGISTER NOW. Our continued commitment is to provide the best opportunities for player development and the transition to the Girls Academy is the next step in ensuring our female players have access to high levels of competition, coaching, and development. "

This is a good example. SYC has completely full 1st teams and 2nd (GA2) teams. Trust me, a lot of those players would jump ship if they thought there was room on a new GA 1st team elsewhere (same applies to ECNL). I think Arlington RL players in those years will defiantly register and tryout for McLean GA. They are likely tired of playing on RL with knowing there is little chance to get on their ECNL team because the rosters are so full.

But I think MYS only got GA Aspire. Careful what you are trying out for.

This is minformation, STOP. Press release clearly outlines two teams one in GA one GAAspire

No it doesn’t. They may have two teams but the press release absolutely does not “clearly outline two teams . . . .” Perhaps it’s just bad drafting. If so the club could easily clear this up on their website. Crickets.

How so?

+1 And McLean only matter because of their 15 year prescence as the preimminent girls clubs in NoVa. Will there teams be middling for the next year or two probably but that not the formula they are working from.

It is awful. No one can dispute that. Boys side sucks. ECNL not competitive. But you just threw out your girls program. Maybe there is good reason to do so (for the future) but don't go around saying good for girls now playing.

Agree McLean will be fine. What they have done though is toss away the top level girls team for the hope of rebuilding one and rebuilding on the boys side.

By continuing to argue the point you are making it clear that your reading comprehension is poor. The new clarifying language from the website, which I already posted above, highlights the ambiguity in their initial message. Glad it was just poor drafting and not sneakiness on their part. Sorry you can’t read.

ECNL keeps saying they have the best recruiting etc but that's bc of clubs/players not because of anything the league is doing. ECNL is a bunch of rich boys league, it has an expiration date.

But why are they dead long term? That makes no sense. GA is a long build to even be close. It is the players but are they getting better? -- but is also ECNL. College coaches prefer ECNL. That does not mean they will not scout GA. They will. And GA can make it much more friendly by copying ECNL in terms of number of showcases and matching the right teams. GA has not done that yet but they could. ECNL has no trademark on what they do.

Why do you care so much if it’s one team or two unless your daughter’s trying out? For those that have daughters trying out they’ve reached out to McLean and have been told there will be both GA and aspire…so get over yourself already!

Is key for boys so it will help GA grow. ECNL girls getting a greater share of D1 scholarships is about the players in ECNL not the level of coaching. As that paradigm continues to shift, ECNL will have to make some hard choices or disband altogether in 5-10 years. My guess is ECNL combines into MLS next/GA and the process starts over until the next person at the top gets pissed and starts their own league. Right now ECNL sometimes goes to MLS showcase but with the age group changings that probably won’t happen either so it will hurt college recruiting for ECNL boys even more

Arlington is not leaving ECNL. No one in their right mind is. That is the issue. The boy's side is a problem but you don't trade away the top on the girl's side for the boy's side top and a hope that maybe someday GA makes it.

I do not think there are many hard choices to make. I agree that the answer is a combination of ECNL and MLS Next. That will not involve GA though.

You must be a girl dad and think that clubs care about girls more than boys.

ECNL and MLSN have a business to run.

If Arlington boys are underperforming or leaving to MLSN aka losing money, guess what , they will most likely be forced to switch over.
