The reason OP? What if democrats were threatening conservative voters instead? How would that affect your rational stance?
On the plus side, some of the voting rights restrictions Republicans want are going to prohibit their own voters as well, they just don't realize it yet. |
Ahh. I see. Republicans were proven by that great PP’s many, many links to be the racist effs that everyone claims them to be, so they’ve just scattered. Klassic. |
OP, this may help.

But this disproprotionately impacts left leaning voters. |
And here we are, 24 pages in, and still none of the resident republicans have posted any genuine or compelling reasons why their voting restrictions are needed. |
Here's the bottom line, OP.
The pandemic resulted in states putting in measures that changed the way people voted. Many states did this through some "emergency EO" that was issued by the governor or other state agency.... not passed by the state legislature as is required by law. Some of those measures worked well and didn't impact the integrity of the vote. States have been working to codify those things that worked well and made voting easier for their residents (like mail in voting and early voting). They are also fixing the things that were done that resulted in less voter integrity (like drop boxes and ballot harvesting). The Democrats would like to federalize the practices whether or not they lead to stronger voter integrity. Things like ballot harvesting... which is illegal in most states... would become legal across the nation. The Republicans believe we should follow the Constitution and have states set the laws that guide the procedure for voting. Republicans are naturally against the Democratic effort to federalize elections. The hyperbole and rhetoric from the president and Democrats that "Democracy will die" if their voting law is not passed is pure BS. Just like the rhetoric with the BBB bill that this was the "most important piece of legislation" proposed and we need to pass it to keep people out of poverty - complete BS. If Democrats have issues with provisions in bills that are passed - they can take their issues to court. Frankly, I wish Republicans would make a big effort to make ballot harvesting illegal in all states. |
OP asked for a compelling argument for the "voting rights" bill. I don't believe that has been made yet. Lots of hyperbole and giving examples from 50 years ago that don't pertain today. |
Did you not see that Orange blob video just above? |
You don't want to write this too broadly. While I think while it's arguable that anyone dropping off more than say two ballots of people unrelated to them and not living with them is of questionable value, or that a decent case can be made for not sending off live ballots to all registered voters, what of: 1) an adult kid dropping off a ballot for an aged parent 2) a dad dropping off a ballot for his daughter before she goes off to Liberty U 3) a husband/wife dropping off a ballot for their spouse (I've done just this although with my wife in the car!) 4) a roommate dropping off a ballot for the both of them ? Now these aren't as suspicious as say 1) a union rep dropping off all twenty ballots from a field 2) a conservative minister dropping off a dozen ballots from aged members living in assisted living 3) a community organizer dropping off fifteen ballots from homeless people 4) a business owner collecting ten ballots from his workers and dropping them off Is that harvesting that needs to be illegal? So far only Alabama has made it so only the voter can drop off their ballot. Other states set limits (e.g. no more than N ballots per person, or only people living with you, etc.) and others don't set any limits. What is ballot harvesting to you? Do you (or anyone, really) have any numbers of just how many ballots are cast via ballot harvesters (the latter group of examples), and not innocuous "people doing favors for those living with them" activity? Given the massive turnout in 2020, it seems that people can vote if they want to. So efforts to abolish voter ID just seem, on the surface, to be so much political theater, although it's a bigger issue than electoral fraud for sure. If it turns out that most of the people who want to vote but don't have ID are senior citizens, I don't see the problem with some sort of amnesty where an affadavit can be made as to birth (e.g. I was born as Jana Blohova, but put down Jane Blow on my wedding license and voted as Jane Smith before moving to this state) as long as proof of current address (e.g. utility bill, etc.) can be established. So if I can trace my activity back to say 1990, at some point, the system needs to have grace. But the central fact is that a consistent ID system is needed, with states able to communicate with each other when people move. |
Lots of ballot harvesting at white churches. You better understand what you’re trying to restrict. |
Seriously? One person posted 6 specific examples from the last two cycles. Give it up, you don't love our Republic, you re not a patriot, you support authoritarianism. Just own it. |
I don't even see the issue with ballot harvesting, as it is described here. Are there illegal votes? No? Then what is the problem? |
Meanwhile: 80% Of Americans Support Voter ID Rules https://www.forbes.com/sites/alisondurkee/2021/06/21/80-of-americans-support-voter-id-rules-but-fewer-worried-about-fraud-poll-finds/ I will go ahead and say it, if you are too low functioning or lazy to have a valid ID then I just don't have much sympathy for you. You need an ID to buy a gun and that is a constitutional right. You need an ID to do half the things in our daily lives. I do think IDs should be free and as easy to get as possible. I think while we are mandating free stuff like Covid tests we should mandate that birth certificates and other important documents be provided free of charge, It would be a trivial expense compare to half the stuff we are funding. ...but you should be required to show an ID to vote. |
