A petition that had 1500+ signers as of last night (not me). I am not *singling out* Tufts -- I am echoing posts by, say, Columbia grads, which *you* allowed for pages and pages *in the college forum*, to discuss the Columbia administration's response to student activism. You seem to have a double standard here, and I am not sure why, but my intentions are to provide prospective parents -- and fellow Tufts community members on DCUM -- with the same kind of discussion as you provided the Columbia community over the past year. My sticking point is with *your* burying the topic and insisting that it is purely political despite *not* holding the same standard to similar discussions of activity at other universities and colleges. But, as you often note, it's your private website & you can do as you see fit. I'm just disappointed in you -- which is why I didn't drop it, honestly. Sucks to have your heroes be human after all!

You are being disingenuous. I am not aware of any thread in the College forum about the abduction of the Columbia student. There was a wider discussion about Trump's crackdown on Columbia that I locked.

I really don't have time to discuss this, but you are trying to compare one university administration's reaction to a government-sponsored kidnapping to another university administration's reaction to ongoing activism on their campus. Those are apples and oranges.

You are also wrong that I am burying the discussion. The Political forum has far more activity than any other forum on the website. It sometimes has more traffic then the rest of the website combined (that is not as true these days due to the massive increase in interest in the jobs forum). If you would simply participate in the thread, it would get plenty of attention.

I am really surprised that you are suppressing info about this situation. Immediate deletion of the post about the Tufts petition, which cites 2 newspapers? Wow, I am honestly surprised. I have respected you very much over the years and this honestly stings. I have always wished you the best with this business and am hoping that you are trying to protect your business interests and not, in fact, just suppressing speech you disagree with.

I am not suppressing anything. In fact, I wrote about the Tufts student myself in my blog post yesterday:

https://www.dcurbanmom.com/weblog/2025/03/27/update032725

You started your post saying, "Hi Jeff, I know there's another thread...". That makes the post appear to be something that belongs in Website Feedback rather than the College forum. Plus, as you say, there is another thread already.

I am not sure why you are so determined to post about this incident, which is clearly a political topic, in the college forum. As I document in my blog post, students have been abducted from Tufts, Columbia, Georgetown, and the University of Alabama. Yesterday, Marco Rubio says he has revoked over 300 student visas. This is a problem that extends far beyond Tufts. There is an argument for a thread addressing how the Trump administration's attack on free speech is impacting colleges and universities, but that is different that a single thread singling out Tufts.
This was a fluke. A few letters in the URL, including a slash, matched a the combination of letters and symbols that a poster had been using to post an insult to Jews that is blocked. He was posting that way to avoid filters. I've removed it so you can post the URL now.
Yes, it is not right. But, it is the sad reality. If I had a dime for poster who told me that the love and support trans people but are only concerned about sports and locker rooms, I could retire. But then a trans women agrees with them and they still go full anti-trans. I always suspected that would be the case.

Sorry about the thread, but I don't have the cycles to police such threads. I'm forced between locking the thread or allow rampant transphobia. I obviously chose the first.
About 25% of the parts used in US-made Teslas come from Canada or Mexico. Parts also come from China. So, Tesla's prices are also going to return.

But, the biggest threat to Tesla is that they will be wiped out in foreign markets. It is unlikely that the U.S. market can come anywhere near to replacing that. The anti-Tesla buyers in the U.S. are more likely to buy ICE cars than Teslas if they can't find alternatives EVs.
I have a lot of storage. The posts are just text and don't take much space. There really isn't anything other than text that gets stored.

OP again - why was the Columbia activism thread in >>colleges then? How is this different? If I spoke of Tufts admin policies as relates to this issue would it merit a >>colleges thread or not?

Tufts students tell me that they find it ironic that President Kumar suggested in his letter to the community (which has been widely reported) that international students who fear for their safety due to ICE or other threats immediately call TUPD, given that many pro-Palestine protestors allege TUPD misconduct:

There are over a million threads on this site. You can't expect total consistency among all of them. I explained why I moved your thread. But it's late and I am not going to spend the evening debating all the other threads.
She was detained by the government, not by the university. The university can do anything about it, the government can. It is completely a political issue.
I didn't read enough to tell if there is sock puppeting but I deleted the thread before I even finished the first post. That poster has been around for a while and has an obsession with height. Another inmate in the DCUM asylum.

It's possible to use word boundaries but I would have to redo the entire system for blocking. It's not an inherent capability of the system but something that has to sort be hacked into it. I may get around to it some day.

There is another round of RIFs scheduled for April 14. So buckle up. News is coming.

I can barely remember yesterday, never mind 1-2 weeks ago. I have no idea what happened to it.
