| The spider wall was too wide for Kasey (the woman in contention), I don't think the competition was fair. |
she fell? That's a shame. I didn't watch yet, but I was rooting for her (how could you not?)
It was so disappointing to see some of my favorites not make it further -- Brent Steffenson, Flip, Drew Dreschel....even James McGrath went out during finals. Nice to know there's at least one other ANW fan on these boards

| Just a basic understanding of the show/contest, but isn’t the course set up the same for everyone regardless of age, height, sex…? Why should they change it for a female with a shorter arm span if they don’t change it for a shorter man with the same arm span? |
| I agree in part, but they made some comment that had she jumped further it would have been closer. |
Pretty much my take on it. Sucks for her but the point is that it is one standard that everyone has to work with. No adjustments made for male, female, weight, height, whatever. Plenty of guys have lost out on the jumping spider because they were short guys without enough wing span. Sucks for her but great that they maintained the integrity of the challenges. ~N~ |
| I had never seen this before, but I watched about 10 minutes of this last night (I got to see the penultimate guy, who apparently was a 2 time champion?!?). But, is there a requirement that you have to jump on the trampoline and then spider walk that way? Or do you just have to get across? Could she have turned and put her hands on one wall and her feet on the other wall pushing hands and feet apart to keep her on the wall and then shimmied sideways alternating moving hands, then feet, then hands, etc? |
| There are some physical activities better suited to a specific body type. It's not sexist it's just how it is. |

DD has become a big fan of this show this summer, but we haven't watched the DVR from last night. Regardless of the outcome, Kacey has been a real trail blazer, and that can never be taken away from her.
DD is bummed that she has to wait until she's 21 to try out for the show. Will it still be around in 11 years??

Good question. There was an episode a few weeks ago where the obstacle was a series of different-sized red balls, and people kept losing their grip and falling. Finally, one guy swung and grabbed the next ball with his legs, and then swung again from an upside down position into a kind of flip for the dismount. Very creative. He was one of only a very few people to beat that obstacle. |
You have to do it that way. With some obstacles there are multiple ways to do it, like the ball example a PP gave, but most have to be done a specific way. For example, there was an obstacle with dancing stones (?) And you couldn't use your hands. One guy slipped, caught himself with his legs, and hopped up. It was pretty amazing. |

I'm not annoyed that it was too wide for a woman, I'm annoyed it was too wide for anyone under a certain height. Some of the challenges seem designed to weed out all but a very specific body type.
For example, although the curved wall is tall, it's not height prohibitive - you can still gain enough ground to scale the wall. Watching this summer I've long predicted that she would go out on some challenge that simply would be impossible for someone her size. I agree, don't change any individual challenge to make it possible for someone shorter - but DO have all the challenges possible for various body types to work around. |
+1. They shouldn't change the obstacle for her -- but they shouldn't have an obstacle that effectively requires a certain size to successfully complete. |
This is OP, yes, you have articulated what I was thinking (not that my validation makes your opinion worthy, it was worthy on its own
|
I heard that too, but I think they said that just to save face (IMHO) |
No, because they've said it for others too. If you jump in further, the wall isn't as far apart. |
