Hi - This is Shelley from Jabberu. While you're specifically looking for feedback from parents, I thought I might be able to provide some helpful information about our camps, that might help you make a decision about whichever language camps you're looking at.

- Our week-long camps (3 hours each day) are taught in immersion, using a technique that allows children new to the language to follow and begin to pick up some language, and more advanced children to be challenged to learn new language.
- The activities are all interactive, giving children tons of opportunities to repeat and respond in the target language.
- The theme is a fun trip to Latin America (in the case of Spanish camp) and each day is a new adventure along the way that allows the teacher to introduce new language that is relevant to everyday life.
- Learning a language is of course an on-going process - our families see camps as a great way to reinforce what the children are learning in school during the year or as a way to build on language that children already know or as a fun introduction to the language and culture, hopefully leading to more language learning.

Best of luck!

Hi - this is Shelley from Jabberu. I hope you receive some helpful feedback from readers. If it is helpful to you - I could connect you with some past birthday party customers. Just give us a call if you'd like that. 1-888-951-1119

Best!
I don't have an exact time frame for classes to start again in the Great Falls/Mclean area. The location we used to teach in is closed, so we'd need to secure a partnership in that area, such as the one we're starting in Columbia. Depending on where they live, most of our customers from that area either come to Ashburn or Bethesda at this time.
This is Shelley from Jabberu - I wanted to second the recommendation for "The Bilingual Edge". That is consistently the book that our multilingual families find helpful. As the other poster mentioned, it includes practical information that you can apply to your specific situation. Folks have also found helpful the attention paid to different learning styles and how that might impact the approach you take.

Hi - This is Shelley from Jabberu. I wanted to jump into the discussion, just to let you know about the type of support that we provide for parents; I thought that might be helpful as you're making your decision.

At enrollment each family receives a "Guide to Growing Up Global". Included as part of this guide are 17 vocabulary and activity sheets - one for each of the themes we cover in classes. These sheets include the Spanish (in your case), the phonetic spelling and the English translation for all of the main vocabulary as well as several sentences (it's important to note that we do not translate in class - it is an immersion class - but for the parents at home, we do provide English). Also included are several suggestions for reinforcing the language at home - perhaps incorporating the language into an everyday activity or a special art project, game or family outing.

There is no question that the more frequent the immersion, the more quickly a child will progress in the language. Many of our students are taking a language that is not spoken at home and we see great progress - especially when these vocabulary and activity sheets are used by the family.

There are wonderful benefits to starting the learning process early, as you're considering. I would also urge you to check out some of the research that can be found online regarding starting a second language at the same time as learning a first language. There is no delay in the first language if a second is introduced. Best of luck and please let us know if you have any other questions or if you'd like to schedule a free trial class.

This is Shelley from Jabberu: not sure where you live, but we have centers in Bethesda, Gaithersburg and Ashburn. You could read more about our program, teachers and centers at our website: http://jabberu.com/

We have classes for children from 6 months - 10 years old. Our teachers are all native-speakers who have wonderful experience and all go through our training program. The classes are in immersion and are activities based - it's a lot of fun for kids, while being results-focused.

You can schedule a free trial class by calling 1-888-951-1119

Hope you find a great program that works for you!
I am one of the owners of Jabberu and we do cultural birthday parties. I often work with a member of our staff to manage the party. I don't mind if my staff is tipped, but from my perspective, I wouldn't personally accept a tip and would much rather a customer share with their friends that they had a good experience working with us and their child and her friends enjoyed the party. For me, that would be much more valuable than a tip.
Hi - this is Shelley with Jabberu. It's great that you're exploring language opportunities for your kids - that's a great gift that they'll continue to benefit from throughout life.

This is a great chance to see our center, meet our teachers and experience our approach to language learning.

And you can always schedule a free trial class!
