Deal full of Subs BC of teacher group exposure?

Anonymous
Hearing from one teacher and a few parents that many of the regular staff are currently quarantining and/or at home awaiting test results.

Doesn’t seem right to have to learn this through the grapevine. Shouldn’t the community be informed so we can make individual decisions on how to proceed with our students?

What do you want? A list of teachers who have Covid sent schoolwide? They have a right to personal privacy. I'm sure their individual classes were informed.

That’s the problem. Classes were not informed. Kids finding subs in the rooms with no idea why.

Apparently some Principals don't want to deal with the parental fallout so are hiding behind the department of health, which is officially handling all case reports and follow-up announcements. Which is a really short-sighted way of dealing with the problem, because it makes parents really mad.

And no, we've been over this multiple times already, HIPAA does not apply to Covid case public disclosure.

HIPAA doesn't but what about ADA?

They aren't hiding behind the DOH. The DOH is tying their hands.

No, it doesn't. It's just that some, not all, school administrators feel they have enough on their plate without adding in constant Covid communication. I get that, but it's a still a very bad move on their part.

Then why are some DCPS Principals getting the word out all by their little own selves?

Because they are defying DOH.

My kid's teacher sent out an email notifying us.

WTH did you think would happen? Everyone screamed that schools should be open even during a very contagious variant so here we are.

I.do.not.get.the.surprise.

Do kids normally get told why their teacher is out sick? I feel like it’d be really awkward to tell a room of 11-13 year olds your teacher has diarrhea or something. Like how crazy would it be for my principal to tell my kids I was out having fertility treatments? I didn’t even tell her why I was out!

Are teachers normally absent because they've been exposed to a highly-transmissible virus for which most of their students haven't been vaccinated? The community deserves transparency so parents can decide the best course for their individual families.

I mean, what Did you honestly think was going to happen?

And no, unless the students were close contacts who are also at risk of transmission, there is absolutely no reason for them to know why their teacher is not there.
