Fight at Winston Churchill on First Day of School

Anonymous
My child came home today and said there was a dangerous fight before Homeroom today at Winston Churchill High School. A student was slammed into a glass trophy cabinet which broke. The two students were brawling in the broken glass till the principal separated them.

No message came home for parents. What a way to start a new school year.

I'm confused. This is one of the "best" and "safest" schools in MCPS. You really expect a message?

Sounds like ms13!

Unless your kid was involved in the fight, the school would not contact you. So not surprised that you have not been told about it by the school. I think fights happen more frequently then we know

Good thing they removed the SROs (police) from schools this year. Not like we need them...

Kids need to take video, and put on social media to shame MCPS into doing something.

If students stopped fighting because a principal simply screamed at them, then an armed police officer was not needed.

My kid just showed me the video and it didn’t look that bad, TBH.

Good to hear stories about things getting back to normal. Finally a non-covid post.

My apologies, I misread the OP. However, if an unarmed principal can do it, why do we need someone with a gun?

I’m not anti gun. We own guns. I just don’t think they belong in schools.
I’m not anti-cop. My brother is in law enforcement. I don’t think coos belong in schools either. Even my brother who is the 2nd best man I know.

I would like whatever powder keg that would cause two students to violently attack one another on the very first day to be addressed. Slamming another kid into a glass case is serious.

Given school violence, we sadly do need people with guns and we don't own guns and never will.

And, what if it happened at a non-W school You would have said the exact opposite.

How was a gun needed in this case?
