Like the post above stated SROs were put in as community approach to policing. They have now decided not to do that anymore. Now they will spend those funds elsewhere.

Fights will happen regardless of who is responding. If you think for one second having an SRO there would have prevented a fight you are an idiot.

Do you have a source for this? I want to believe you because I'd like to think that MCPS wasn't so stupid as to remove SRO without replacing them with anything.

A source? Ask any high school student or parent. Everyone has security guards and like i said they had them before SROs. Also just FYI middle schools and elementary schools have security as well. Not all day at one location like high schools but they have security officers responsible for each school. Look it up

Looking it up would mean finding a source yourself. Go to each schools website and see the staff directory. Go to the MCPS site and read about security.

Each high school has its own website with its own staff security/staff directory. Type in the name of the MoCo HS + security and Google will bring you to the page that lists the security staff for that school. Just like each school has its own teachers, janitors, counselors, etc.

I'm not a huge mcps fan, but Ida was out of their control. Rain wasn't bad here where I am, but DH was out and about around 2 to 3pm, and he said it poured and parts of the road were flooded.

MoCo is huge, and unfortunately, different areas of the county are impacted differently by the weather.

The County already had one incident where an apartment complex flooded and at least one person died. Knowing this, and "not" dismissing early when another wave of the storm was slated to pass through, could have been a disaster. Yes, they are cautious. There's good and bad in that. I think they'd rather get screamed at for closing early than get screamed at when a school bus gets trapped (or worse) in a flash flood.

This topic could have it’s own thread, but why not move classes online for the afternoon instead of 2.5 hours of no instruction? At a minimum, why didn’t teachers email the homework to students so they had assignments to do at home?

There was a shelter in place at Cabin John and Bells Mill. Any idea why there wasn’t a shelter in place at Churchill?

Anyone know if MCPS coordinated with Churchill on the shelter in place at Cabin John and Bells Mill? Were students dismissed from Churchill just to be walking home when the other schools were sheltering students?

The lack of communication is abysmal this year.
