Not a fed so I could be way off base but since Juneteenth is a Sunday in 2022 couldn't you celebrate the day without having to take leave?

But who is observing it on the Monday? It’s a celebration driven by and actual date - like the 4th of July. When the 4th is on a Sunday, everyone celebrates it on Sunday. What would you actually do on Monday?

I’m not arguing the merits of it being a federal holiday, just questioning why you need the next day off?

I've been a fed contractor. I'm pretty sure this is like every other federal holiday, so you should be just as resentful of:

New Years Day – Friday, December 31
Martin Luther King Jr. Day - Monday, January 17
Washington's Birthday - Monday, February 21
Memorial Day - Monday, May 30
[Juneteenth - Monday, June 20]
Independence Day - Monday, July 4
Labor Day - Monday, September 5
Columbus Day - Monday, October 10 "Columbus Day" (also observed as Indigenous Peoples Day)
Veterans Day - Friday, November 11
Thanksgiving - Thursday, November 24
Christmas Day - Monday, December 26

I mean, I'm sure you celebrate some of them, but Washington's Birthday? Likely not.

Look, this is just the nature of the contract. If it bothers you that much, sign on as permanent for the feds (or someplace private). Then you usually get holiday pay.

I'm a physician who works for HHS. If we are on call on a holiday, we *ONLY* get paid for 8 hours holiday pay, not the full hours worked. Sucks, but it's the nature of the beast. All jobs and contracts come with pros and cons. You just deal with them, or you change your working situation.

The federal government will be closed on the Monday. I will be forced to take the day off.

I work for a large IT contractor and it’s not on our FY22 holiday schedule. I thought it would be.

Yep. In general, contractors can't work when the site is shut down. It's a forced leave without pay.

But as I noted above, it's just one of many.

Right. The site is shut down, and your services are not needed at that time -- whether you are onsite or offsite. Obviously the services are not needed, or you would have to be providing them. You are not.

There are services which are still needed (both onsite and offsite) when the site in question is shut down. The people providing them are still paid.
