it will be observed on the Monday . And I will be forced to use leave

But who is observing it on the Monday? It’s a celebration driven by and actual date - like the 4th of July. When the 4th is on a Sunday, everyone celebrates it on Sunday. What would you actually do on Monday?

I’m not arguing the merits of it being a federal holiday, just questioning why you need the next day off?

When the fourth of July is on a Sunday, then the federal government is closed on Monday. I assume OP does a job that requires the government to be open.

DP. But this is the law. It's how the federal system works.

You also have protections as a federal worker with ongoing medical issues that you either don't have at all or are not respected in the private sector.

ALL jobs have tradeoffs. If this tradeoff doesn't work for you, you can switch for something that is better for you. If you can't find something that works better for you, then this is the tradeoff.

I’m not a federal worker. I’m a contractor . Show me other jobs where you are forced to use 20% of you PTO?

1) Why are you in such a sh*tty job?
2) Here's a heads up, you will be off work on Juneteenth, you might want to schedule one of your routine dr. visits for that day, if the dr. is open.

I’m a contractor . I don’t get Juneteenth off, have to use PTO which I don’t get much of. I also typically have to use three days of PTO for the High holidays and Tisha b’Av. So it does hurt me given I only have 6 remaining days of PTO.

You’re also the OP of this thread, right? Your strand period placement gives you away in every thread. Start looking for a new job.

Are you not able to flex your hours? So that the Monday Juneteenth is celebrated is a “flex day” for you?

Why do you have to use PTO on that day?

Can't you just keep your PTO intact (and use it for your needs and plans) and just have one day where you are not paid? What's the damage? Sorry if I am missing something important, just trying to understand...

yes I could make up the 8 hours during the rest of the week but I have bad eye strain abd have lots of medical appointments so it would be hard to do

You don’t “ have” to use your leave for those holidays. That’s your choice.
