Any other fed contractors getting screwed over for Juneteenth

Anonymous
Find a new employer. My old company (huge fed contractor), gave 5 weeks of leave and most paid federal holidays. If you didn’t want to take one off, most times you could find something billable to do - training, etc.

Let's say you make $1000 a day. Please start setting aside $100 a month so you can survive the depravations of Juneteenth.

How many times do I have to say it? I have medical issues I need all my leave for that. I haven’t been on a vacation in 12 years. And it was two days this year I was forced to use PTO

It sounds like your job is not a good fit for your needs. That’s not Juneteenth’s fault.

I work with a staff of IT contractors. Their salary is easily $50k-$100k higher than what their fed managers make. AND their contracts are written so they get federal holidays off. (Today I learned on DCUM that this is not normal.) Yet they are quick to test positive for COVID and come to work anyway because they don't want to use their PTO. They whine about not having separate sick leave or the amount of annual leave federal employees get, but not a single one of them would take the pay cut to leave their contractor. It's insane.

How many times can we tell you that problem is your crappy employer who gives you terrible benefits? Either look for a better job, or accept whatever tradeoffs makes it worth it for you to stay (perhaps your pay is high or you’re difficult to employ). But this isn’t a problem with the federal government and it isn’t a problem with Juneteenth. It’s a problem because your employer is incredibly stingy with the PTO. That’s where you should be focusing your wrath.

If I were you, and had medical issues that required me to use PTO, I would do a job search and make sure that the job I accepted had good PTO benefits, even if the pay is lower. Your choice of employer is obviously a poor fit for your needs.

This means your job is not a good fit for you. Change it.

Technically this is wage theft.

Same with our fed contractors. Tons of whining, but the salary is better than feds. Just get new jobs and stop whining!

obviously not SCA people. SCA people don’t even get raises unless they are minimum wage

Chiming in. Your emoyer sucks OP.

I work for one of the larger non-profit contractors and we get paid for the Juneteenth holiday and can also continue to work on those holidays the Feds take that we don't like Columbus Day. There are companies with more generous benefits out there.

Based on what? The law states that employers can assign PTO.

The title of this thread is very offensive especially when you consider the reason behind the holiday. Think of others who look forward to celebrating the holiday which commemorates the emancipation of African-American slaves. Take PTO and stop whining.
