I hoped DC would be in person, full-time in the fall. I still hope for this, but Delta has thrown a wrench. I don't expect DC to commit to every single detail, given the moving targets. But there are some things they really could update us on:
- What's the quarantine policy for vaxxed & non-vaxxed kids? - What's the education approach during quarantine? - What's the status of requiring vaccines for school staff? - What's the plan for minimizing contact (lunch, restrooms, between periods, etc.) These are basics. DCPS issues so many comms on everything EXCEPT Covid. If we heard that they were even formulating a reasonable plan, it would really boost confidence in their competence. |
What does this even mean? Not every thought in your head needs to be a DCUM thread. |
These are basic questions parents should have at least tentative answers on, so not sure what your point is. And as for the 2nd bullet: are they going to send all kids home for 2 weeks with each quarantine (as they did during summer school), or will they provide virtual learning for quarantined students? Not every confusion in your head needs to be a response to a DCUM thread. |
| What made you think that DCPS would be able to keep your kids safe? They can’t even manage to keep lead out of the drinking water. |
| PP, what’s your beef with the OPs questions? I think they are all valid! |
|
1- I imagine students will be sent home for 10 days. That was the case during summer school.
2- I’ve heard teachers will still be using Canvas all year in case of a quarantine. 3- Bowser said she is working with the city’s unions on vaccine mandates for city employees. 4- This is likely individualized by school. I agree with OP that I wish they were providing more info directly, but one can opine answers by cobbling together various sources (current DCPS teachers, press conferences, comms from school’s admin, etc) |
| Central office will put all of these decisions, plans, and procedures on to individual schools. They won’t come up with anything. SMH. |
| Our ES said that there will be no virtual instruction for kids who are quarantined. I don't know if that's a district wide decision or just this school. |
Which school |
| Teacher here. We haven’t been given this info either and probably won’t learn anything until week before school. I’m hopeful that at least we’ll hear about a vaccine mandate for all staff soon so there’s at least time for one shot. Also since I teach over 350 unvaccinated younger students at my school I would love to hear about booster shots as many of us who went back in February last year are at the six months out point. |

Here are all (or rather most) school plans, although they are general:

Really? From their website: On Sunday, August 8th I will be sending out our official welcome back email with a full list of our COVID protocols, as well as class lists, signups for room parents, the school year calendar of events, and other exciting information! Be on the lookout for that email! I know it’s the 8th….. but I didn’t get that email yet. I suspect trolling. |
None of the JKLM schools are there...this is DCUM. This isn’t relevant unless it has those |
Nevermind. I see DCPS is just one plan as a whole. That is ridiculous. Everyone knows schools are going to differ. But looking at this raises another interesting thing Inhad not considered - NAPS! Thankfully, my children are no longer in PK so won’t have that issue but in addition to lunch, you are going to have unmasked mandatory nap periods for PK3 and PK4! |
