Are we talking about the Covid emergency ACA subsidies? |
You can file for unemployment but then have to return the money when the shutdown ends. Most credit unions in the area and some banks will offer no interest loans. Local governments are also offering resources to furloughed workers, for example electric and gas utility protection. |
Didn’t you get all that info with your furlough notice? I did. There was some pre filled out form for unemployment. Side note- don’t even bother in Virginia. You won’t qualify. I tried a long time ago as a single person gs7 because I couldn’t pay my bills. |
| My kids’ aftercare said they would defer payments for affected fed families during the shutdown. |
The easiest, although not necessarily financially best, option is often a TSP loan. Up to 50k with a $50 processing fee, a 4.25% interest rate, and no payments until we start to get paid. |
I think this is the best option, if needed. |
We got paid this week and you’ll get a check in two weeks for the full week and 2 days plus orderly shut down time logged, so you’ll miss your first bit of pay (2.5 days worth) in two weeks if this drags that long. So hopefully it wont even come to that. |
Can you get a TSP loan during a shutdown? |
| If you’re military, USAA will give you fee free and interest free loans for the length of the shutdown |
If no backpay do you pay back? |
No. But there will be back pay. Get a 0% interest credit card to float you through. |
Don't spend taxpayer dollars hiring dozens of tech bro douches with no government experience (sorry, a 19-year-old is not a senior advisor), upgrading an airplane from Qatar Trump will never fly in, decorating the White House in knick-knacks from a Pottery Barn's bordello collection, flying HRH to Mar-a-Lago (it's time to just retire there, stop expecting us to pay for your retirement weekends). You know, things like that that the rest of us would like to, well, DOGE. |
If they give in now, the president will just keep doing this over and over. It’s not the Ds that are threatening us. |
Those Democrats won elections to get them in the Senate. Republicans refused to negotiate with them. Republicans need to end this. Don’t treat duly elected representatives with utter contempt and expect them to roll over. |
It's even worse than you all think. The Trump budget wants to implement massive cuts to the federal government, far worse than DOGE. Democrats cannot go on record to approve it. Full stop. History will be on their side. A lot of feds are going to get RIF'd before 2026, or now during the shutdown, unless some Republicans manage to get through to the White House than this isn't exactly going to win them votes in the mid-terms. So Democrat feds have nothing to lose by fighting. And Republican feds may also lose their jobs. The DC area is going to be in a recession by early 2026. |
