My mattress was causing me back and hip pain for 3 months!

Yes, it took me that long (and many visits to a chiropractor) to figure out why, at age 46, I felt like a 90-year-old.

My mattress is embarrassingly old, and I didn’t realize they should be replaced like every 7 years.

I want to pass this along so no one else deals with the emotional torment I’ve been through; I thought my body was breaking down. 😭😭

I need a new mattress too. Which kind did you get?

Purple; it’s expensive as hell, but good.

Huh. This may be my problem. We bought ours when Obama was still running in the primaries.

A few years ago I finally replaced my 12-year-old mattress, and my shoulder pain instantly disappeared.

Probably, PP.

I think mine was like 15 years old…or something crazy like that. Maybe older! I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why it hurt to bend over….and why my hip hurt when I stood still.

Absolute madness!

I feel totally fine now.

Another 44 yo here who feels like I’m 90. My body hurts and is so sore when I bend over. And I can’t remember when we bought our mattress. It was before kids and my oldest is 13.

Any suggestions for brands?

Okay I googled. The brand is purple.

I went with Purple, but I would’ve looked into Tempurpedic, too. (Purple came highly recommended.)

Color me skeptical-- every 7 years? I've never ever heard that. I always thought a good mattress lasted 20 or more.

replace every 5 or else the same thing happens to me, my body feels like its breaking down...

I desperately want a new one as this one was never quite right. But I'm worried about making a mistake again, and it's an expensive long term mistake.

I totally understand. Purple has a return policy, which helped me make my decision.

For those of you with Purple mattresses, does the powder bother you? I tested one in store and was not sold. My current mattress (a Simmons BeautyRest) is 12 years old and due for replacement. I'm tempted to venture away from a traditional innerspring, especially if mattress technology has come a long way over the past decade. But I keep testing things like Casper and Purple and memory foam and always end up curling up on the old-school Sealys and Simmons in the showroom. I just dislike the box spring and eventual squeakiness.

NP, I went with a Layla Hybrid Mattress and my back pain got so much better. They have a good return policy, so I didn’t feel like I’d get trapped with a mattress that didn’t work for me.
