Metropolitan DC Local Politics
| Texan here. Yes this was a big thing in some local school board races in May. And yes they are targeting retirees who vote. I canvassed for a candidate in my area and started getting questions from people about "CRT" brainwashing 3rd graders in March. |
| Once school is out everywhere and summer is in full swing, this "issue" will soon be forgotten. |
I don’t think so, sadly… there are thousands upon thousands of schools and it only takes one clip of someone harassing a school official for Fox to broadcast it and it will blow up. It’s too much red meat from the base. The NBC article goes over some of how this works on the right. I don’t know however whether this has been happening in the DMV. |
| If right wing billionaires are leading the fight against CRT we should give them a round of applause. They’re finally using their money for something positive for a change. |
|
Most of the people harping on this have no idea what it is other than 'black people like it so I should oppose it because Fox News says so'
|
+1000. I would love one of the RWNJs to actually define it. |
| As the article hints, in part, it's really about identifying voters and getting them to turn out in the midterms. Maybe it's also about shining a light o school boards and stressing the importance of taking an interest in that. What school systems do regarding their curricula is a local matter, and although the basic points that CRT emphasizes are clear, it's implementation may vary. It's unreasonable to condemn it without analysis or, o the other hand, to affect a fake nonchalance about it. |
It's not something that can be quickly defined. It's complicated. |
Maybe in Loudoun? |
This, right here. Imagine angry that history is being taught that reflects the experiences of all Americans. |
|
Yep. They always need something to complain in regards to minorities - usually black people.
During the election season there were an unholy number of posts about 'Reparations' and a 'Race Civil War' that no one in the political sphere was talking about. Just to rile up their base and get votes - good thing they lost the election, the Senate, the House, and the Presidency. Losers. |
Give us concrete examples of CRT lessons innschool so we can see how well you understand it. |
| what is "astroturfed"? Lasting forever? Scratchy? Tacky but permanent? Temporary solution? I can't decide if it's a delightful new expression or if I hate it. |
