I have been doing so well eating and working out but the weekend hits and I have a couple of cheat meals and gain more weight than I lose.
Going on vacation this summer for 2 weeks and worries how many pounds I will gain. Any tricks to keep weekend lbs down and allow myself some cheat meals. |
Eat very small portions when traveling |
| Don't weigh yourself right after a weekend/vacation. |
|
1. Try to get some exercise every day while you are on vacation. If you are going to be doing a lot of walking on a particular day, that counts!
2. Skip the breakfast buffet 3. Drink lots of water 4. Try to eat light earlier in the day if you know you will be having a big dinner 5. Enjoy yourself and don't sweat the 2-3 lbs you might gain. As long as you don't go overboard with the indulgence, shouldn't be that hard to get back on track when you return. |
| I eat so much on vacation but never gain weight because I am moving so much. Walking a lot works. If you are going to a place that doesn't have much walking, like a resort or a pool, then don't eat past being full. |
| You're noticing the weight gain from the weekend because of water-retention probably. Just because you gain 5 lbs from poor eating over the weekend doesn't mean you'll gain 35 lbs from two weeks away. You'll probably gain 5-10lbs total if you just enjoy yourself. Just try to eat moderately (have desert when you want it, but don't have five plates at the breakfast buffet), try to get some exercise each day (whether that be walking around the city or a 30-minute online HIIT workout), and get back on track as soon as you get home. |
Good ideas. I tend to like active vacations anyway. Hiking, snorkeling, biking, etc. I eat whatever is popular where I go and don’t worry about the calories. I usually gain 5 pounds but then lose it within a week of getting back by watching what I eat. |
| If it’s the same 5 lbs every weekend, leaning you start the week at 135, get down to 130, then go up to 135 by the end of the weekend, over and over, it isn’t fat, it’s water from salt/carbs and poop. If it’s 5 lbs that sticks and every so often you add another 5, that’s gain, but 5 lbs over the weekend that goes away during the week isn’t true fat gain. |
| I always LOSE weight on vacation. So so so much time to exercise. |
Different for everyone. I workout 5 days a week during normal life. During vacation I sleep in and don’t go to the gym. So I’m not going to lose more or even be exercising more necessarily. |

Skipping breakfast is the only way I can manage. Some fruit is acceptable. But I usually just have a plain black coffee if I know I will have a big meal later that day.
No liquid calories, generally. |
