Agree. A lot of turnovers last year in the middle of the field. |
| Yes Prep fogo is POY candidate and the team will go as he goes. |
SJC actually has a kid that can compete with him. SJC lost virtually every face off in their two wins over Prep last year. |
| If memory serves wasn't it the recovery of the faceoffs were the issue and not the clamp per se? Seemed like that was near even split but the recovery by the LSM was the key. |
| You can have the best face off guy in the league… if you can’t pick up the ball or your wing play sucks, your advantage at the x is gone. SJC dominated the wings and either won the gb battles or caused preps fogo to have to try and handle the ball and he turned it over. |
| Prep was generally overrated last year all over the field. Their hyped scorers failed to put up meaningful goals against any decent teams (SJC, Landon, and Bullis) while running it up against garbage teams like GZ and SSSA. Defense and goaltending masked a lot of their issues. |
SJC will actually have 2 FO guys this year when they play. Add the wing play and 2 legit FO guys and you have a bigger problem than you had last year. |
Of course they are, most top teams in the DMV are. The statement was that SJC practices as a team together year round. IAC teams are not allowed to. |

No clue - lifting is not practice. Envy is a terrible thing. |
My son plays for a top private school program in the area and will most likely play in college if he chooses to. We continue to remind him, grades will open far more future doors than lacrosse will. I can assure you, his HS lacrosse coaches aren't having organized practices or team lifting sessions after school in the Fall. His coaches make it very clear to the boys in the lacrosse program to play a 2nd sport, whether it's soccer, football, or cross-country they don't care as they want the boys competing. My son's team doesn't play in a fall ball or winter box league and hasn't for all the years we have been at the school. For all the prospective MS lax parents on this thread, be very wary of any HS coach who is pushing a year-round lacrosse regiment as it can lead to burnout. This is HS sports, not college sport. And if you really think playing lacrosse year-round will make your son a better player, oftentimes than not, it will lead to overuse in muscle development and potential injury. |
| So true. I am a sports parent and a physician. Most kids who play one sport year round suffer from physical, mental or emotional burnout. There are so many overuse injuries in teens who play one sport excessively, injuries that often derail their playing careers. And then there's the resentment these kids end up developing toward their coaches and parents for pushing them to do this. Please allow your child to play sports for fun and not as a means to get into college. Very few of them will actually get a leg up in admissions, much less play at the next level. |

+1
We avoided a particular private for the reasons you mentioned above. |
But these SJC kids will play at the next level. They are likely the top team in the country. Same level as the Joey Epstein Landon team. |
| Getting a little carried away dad…SJC is no way near the undefeated Landon 2017. That team had multiple players who attended top ranked D1 schools and are contributing now that they are in college. SJC has a number of really good players who play well together as a team. But other than the goalie, there is not one player who could be considered a 5 star. Landon had multiple 5 stars including the fogo who went something close to 80% and Epstein who may have been National POY. If SJC goes undefeated this year I may change my tune, but the fact remains there is a huge talent disparity between the two teams that you are comparing. |
