MASTER Cancel Travel b/c of COVID-19 Questions Thread

I was probably a sole hold out on my travel to Puerto Rico for this Sunday. We have decided to cancel. I am beyond sad but we can’t take a chance.

What about Costa Rica from Minneapolis the last week of March? 2 adults, 2 kids (4 and 7).

HEAD OF CDC just specifically said travelers are coming back with it an seeding their communities. He said it to congress just now at least three times.

IGNORE!! IGNORE!! IT WON'T HAPPEN TO MEEEEEE

Also called out travelers who 'then go to nursing homes' (sound familiar, Montgomery County?). Said THAT will be why hospitals are overwhelmed if it does not stop

Anonymous wrote:Any luck with getting money back from a European carrier? We are supposed to be flying to Ireland with Aerolingus. When we called a couple weeks ago they were going to slap us with huge change fees and credit would have to be used 12 mo from booking date which is not going to work for us.

I know, it sucks!! Money vs people dying. Money vs. people dying. Convenience vs people dying. What to do, what to do...

It was a simple question. You seem like a delightful person.

Also, I'm not sure what the head of the CDC said in front of Congress, but as of now, the CDC website still says "Watch Level 1: CDC does not recommend canceling or postponing travel to destinations with level 1 travel notices because the risk of COVID-19 is thought to be low." So, until official warnings and information are changed, it was a totally legitimate question.

You can cancel online with United and you will get back 100% of your ticket price refunded to your CC. No need to wait on hold.

Were these nonrefundable tickets? Can you walk us through how? I get an error message on United.com when I try (my flights are basic economy so maybe that is why). Thanks!

Again, THREE TIMES the CDC head JUST SAID this situation is rapidly changing and it's now very obvious that travel, especially international, is bringing it back and seeding communities here with it. Expect that to change.

There is a live conference going on now. Turn it on.

It's a stupid question. Global pandemic? "Can I still go overseas to Central America?"

We canceled our trip to CR. We Don’t want to get sick in a country where we don’t know much about their health system.

I'm the OP of the United question. I went online as the pp suggested. I will not be able to receive a refund but they will give me credit for the full amount i paid for a future flight. Better than nothing!

An old college friend just posted a pic yesterday from Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport with his family all smiles enroute to Madagascar. I'm a world traveler myself, but I was disgusted at the tone deaf post. I didn't comment because everyone else was like "Cool, enjoy the lemurs". WTF

The advice is specific to those over 60. They have not said to avoid traveling. If this was the case we should halt travel on subways and buses since it’s in the DC area.
