Who is the abusive boys coach at McLean? |
I'm guessing to the extent that is true it only applies to the Developmental Academies and national teams. |
What team is looking for a few more players. I'd like to know, thinking about putting my 10 yr old in. Thanks. |
There's some talk that maybe this should only apply to travel teams (and not to house/rec teams) but it is definitely not limited to just DAs and national teams. The 2016/17 year will be a mess as some teams will start to transition next Fall, and others will wait until Fall 2017. I'm worried it will hurt the recruitment of good players born in the first half of the year as colleges might think they're playing against younger (and therefore lesser) competition than the older kids in their same grade / recruiting class. |
Seems like this change is a pretty big deal, especially for players with certain birth months (although maybe not as big of an adjustment in this area with the prominence of the Academies and envision how the 2016/17 "best practices" year would work.... |

Sorry.... (although maybe not as big of an adjustment in this area with the prominence of the Academies and ODP. Also, I can't envision how the 2016/17 "best practices" year would work....

| I think everyone older than current U7s would be grandfathered. |
That's not how it's going to work. No one will be grandfathered. Now, a team can keep its current roster of players and just play in the older age group but they'll be at a competitive disadvantage b/c many of their players will be at least a year younger than their opponents. |

It will be a big change in terms of having to pull apart current teams, but once tryouts are done everything will go back to normal. We will stop call teams "u whatever" and start with the birth year (e.g. 2005s) It might be a pain for college coaches who need to recruit based on graduation date, but they will get over it.

I am so sick of giant Kindergarten and first graders that are held back and 2 years older than my kid. The beauty of it is that when it comes time for their classmates to tryout for travel they don't qualify. They have to tryout with the kids 1-2 grades above that are their chrono-age. I love to see the type-As crumble when they realize it's not like Rec date wise. |
I can't wait. It will equalize some of the wrong 'political' picks. |
Goodness gracious, you folks are so bitter. It will be unfortunate for my kid, who has a late December birthday. But oh well; it's just kids' soccer. |
Maybe it'll fix some of the selection problems affecting your team now but nothing will change the fact that politics/ favoritism will always play some role in team selection. Changing to a calendar year basis just modifies which group of kids will be considered for a particular team. |
Yeah, I fail to see how this would really change anything except that kids born January-March will have an advantage instead of the kids born August-October. It's kind of a pity because the current system usually lets kids play with their classmates. |
The August-October kids don't really have a advantage right now. All the higher level teams are by birth year. If August-October play "on age" through house and local travel they then need to try out "playing up" for the higher level teams and all the early years played with a physical advantage are detrimental. The problem right now is that US Youth Soccer is using two age cutoffs (Aug 1st and Birth Year). We should converge on one consistent age cutoff - does not matter which one. But since international standard is Birth Year that is the only one that is possible to converge on. For travel teams the playing with classmates is not that relevant. These teams draw from multiple schools. For example my kid only has a few other kids from his elementary school in the entire multi team squad. And Aug 1st does not align exactly with school cutoff anyway - there is already a couple month gap in many states. For house teams, I agree that it could make some difference. I have seen some house teams where most of the team is from the same grade of the same school. |
