thinks the outbreak of the coronavirus is being contained in certain areas.

This claim comes as the number of cases has risen to more than 440 in the US. There have been 19 deaths and cases now span 32 states and the District of Columbia.

“If we had massive numbers of cases we would be seeing more deaths. And so we actually feel pretty good that some parts of the country have contained it just like when you look at the flu. And when we look at the the flu tracker, some parts of the country are having much more severe flu seasons. Some are having very mild flu seasons. The same thing for Coronavirus,” Adams said.

This is what the US should do also. It's what Korea did, their case numbers are going down and their CFR is under 1%.

Cool it, Karen. I know some people are getting a perverse pleasure out of their fear and paranoia, so feed off it while it lasts.

I'm curious, why do you think the virus will just die out? Have you not seen what has happened in Italy? Why do you think the U.S. will be immune from that?

And why do you not care about people in nursing homes? What is being done to keep the virus out of nursing homes?

We aren't seeing the mass rise in severe sickness requiring hospitalization and deaths despite having time for it to happen.

14/20 of the US deaths are all from just one nursing home. According to the nursing homes some of those deaths went from no signs of infection in the morning to dead by night.

Almost all the other deaths are related to the cruises.

So far we're not seeing people dropping dead from casually picking up the virus despite it's had plenty of time to spread throughout Seattle and NYC by now. The virus numbers have grown in NYC ever since the one man picked it up (and people forget before him there was an Iranian woman) but there's no stampede to the hospitals, there's no outbreaks of deaths. Just look at Seattle, which has had the longest period of outbreak in the US. Are the Seattle hospitals seeing a sharp rise of people seeking medical care? Nope. Even among other elderly care centers nothing is happening.

Of course I care about what happens to the elderly and very sick. And I'm doing my part by staying away from the elderly and very sick.

You're right, it's not too bad right now. But this virus isn't going to just stop infecting people. In fact, each person with CV infects, on average, 2-3 other people. So what we've seen in countries where there's been no mitigation, the number of cases doubles about every 6 days.

That day, February 21st,

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said he would meet the chiefs of Italy’s civil protection agency, and that the situation was under control.

Interesting that not everyone is panicking. Noticed this quote and realised I’ve heard very little from other black folks I know as well. I’m black and I’ve been following given some upcoming work and personal (domestic) travel, but we haven’t cancelled anything.

“But the degree of fear is not universal. In Harlem, if there was hysteria, it was hard to find last week.

“People up here aren’t really paranoid, not yet,” said Sharon John, a street vendor selling T-shirts in front of the Apollo Theater, who had been a nursing assistant for more than four decades.

“It’s going to take a little more than that to get Harlem going.”

I'm white and I don't know anyone IRL who is panicking either. It seems mostly online paranoia and the media.

People are aware. And taking some caution (my parents are active in retirement groups and events are being cancelled left and right at retirement homes/senior centers). But beyond that it's not doom and gloom.
