They go to the hospital to get an IV when they have a fever, and when something like this happens, rumors of catastrophe spread quickly through the population. So all these videos we are seeing of Chinese flooding the hospitals, abandoning vehicles, etc., I am taking with a big grain of salt. We’ve seen this type of panic before with other viruses.

And in the US, this stuff sells advertising space. It gets people watching, reading, and clicking. Buying masks here in the US is a ridiculous overreaction. But I guess it makes people feel more in control. 36,000 people die from seasonal flu every year in the US. Perspective, people.

It makes me wonder about people’s intentions. Are the purposely trying to spread fear or is following viruses genuinely a hobby for these PP’s?

Panic porn. It is entertaining, I guess.

My strategy is every time they confirm a new case in the states I’ll buy more food.

If it blows over I’ll donate it to a shelter. Win win.

Not a win for the other people who wanted the “last box of masks.”

I just heard from a colleague that they are closing a Fairfax County middle school because of a suspected case (he heard this from his DC).

I usually don’t get concerned but I got concerned about Ebola. I thought it was much more infectious that it turned out to be and I was stunned when that family lived for days with Ebola infected man and they didn’t catch it.

I’m concerned now because things in China quickly deteriorated and the HK and British models show the number of infected in 50-100K.

They closed down million people cities, videos show corpses in laying around in public, US is evacuating people, countries like Mongolia and Taiwan are closing borders.

I’ve never heard in my life of such measures. Even with SARS and Ebola.

You are going to have to provide some links to back this up. Corpses in the streets?

We have been getting the flu vaccine for years, so I am hoping that the body has some ability to fight anything that is flu like, a bit better.

Kids are not most reliable source especially when they hear it form other kids who heard it from
other kids who got a message and misunderstood the content. We have seen this before here.

Perhaps this is just that.. and some kid misunderstood what was happening?:

That is correct so far, in the US.

But isn't it just saying "we don't know"? Since the incubation period is 14 days so
how can we can be sure already?

Ebola is not airborne. The panic was because the mortality rate is so high if you catch it, but it's about as transmissible as Hep C and less so than HIV. It's very easy not to catch with basic sanitation and universal precautions. SARS is airborne but also not actually all that contagious. This new Wuhan virus seems to be much more so, though it's hard to get a good picture because we don't know how honest China is being with the numbers or how many patients have been missed.

There have been multiple social media posts. A quick search of "Wuhan Corpses" will provide many links.

Maybe just wishful thinking from kids (i.e. not having to go to school)
