It’s just the beginning. Westfield will lose many more teachers and electives once the Skyview changes are fully phased in.

It is for sure more than just two teachers next year. Its likely that the bulk of Skyview's optional 9th and 10th graders are coming from Westfield. They are going to be destaffing a lot of their least-seniority teachers for the fall.

It’s kind of a shit-show. They can’t really claim they’d leave Westfield at 74% because it was “too big” when they are leaving Oakton so large. They just make short-term decisions based on what they think they get away with and what will placate the loudest people with the most money. Money may not exchange hands, but it’s still corrupt.

100% agree there is a LOT of corruption. When a large block of people organize, the school board members think about that large block of votes and nothing else. Disgusting.

DP. Obviously some people have more time and resources to work the system to their advantage. The School Board should be serving the entire community and not just deferring to the wishes of the loudest.

People praised Westfield as being state of the art when it was built. It didn’t age very well.

Kids who would be attending Westfield for 9th grade opted to attend Skyview next year instead. Westfield will have fewer freshman and so the least senior teachers of 9th grade courses are losing their positions.

That is probably not as many kids leaving as there will be when the actual boundary changes. Hence the destaffs really won’t hit until 2027-2028. Two is nothing.

Wrong. If they wanted to "get out of Westfield", they could have applied to transfer to any other school. They didn't. They were subsequently destaffed. One is being sent to Skyview (not by choice) and not sure about the other.

That's actually incorrect. It was built during a time of austerity for public buildings including schools. There are no bells and whistles. There's not even a lobby or central gathering atrium type area like you commonly see on school designs. There are no places for students to gather and socialize. Its a very basic structure. The only classrooms with windows are in the addition that was tacked on once the building opened over capacity.

Its a lot more than two this year, pp only happened to know of 2 of them.Westfield could be losing 200+ freshman this year.

Has FCPS shared what base schools the opt-ins are coming from?

I am wondering, after the boundary is set, will they let allow rising 9th grade kids, who did not opt in earlier, in the boundary to opt-in.
