I think the 4Runner driver should sue this family after this sentencing.

It’s outrageous they want the families who lost their 15 year old kids to move on but they refuse to let their grown up kid to take responsibility.

This is typical of most cases though. Not taking responsibility to the full degree. It's human nature and why we have the process we have.

As a precaution, Fairfax County sheriff’s deputies asked Circuit Court Judge Randy Bellows to leave the courtroom. He did this after dismissing the jury.

About 10 minutes later, a deputy told those in court that the hearing was in recess.

What's this about?

Because it could have been a distraction so that someone could have then attacked the judge.

The sentencing was delayed

If I was the 4Runner driver, I would have disposed of all my assets in Virginia and moved down to Florida (where your primary residence is not subject to judgment).

The civil case lawyers will be suing everyone - The Shahid family, the insurance companies, the 4Runner driver, the county for the street design, etc. Good chance that the 4Runner driver shares some degree of culpability for the girls' deaths.

Are the Shahid's an elite family in Pakistan?

My guess is that the two year delay in the trial gave them plenty of time to sell RE and move assets out of the country. Hence why they might be seemingly living in a mediocre rental apartment.

The issue of the 4 Runner driver's negligence hasn't been established conclusively. Maybe he turned before the crosswalk was clear, or maybe it was clear when he turned but then a student darted in from the sidewalk (as pedestrians sometimes do). There's probably no way to prove what happened.

Juries might also have a tough time assigning him fault given that he was stopped and then stuck by a car traveling 81, which should never happen in any circumstances, despite all the posters on this thread seeking to downplay Shahid's dangerous driving.

Yes, some of these keyboard warriors are in for a rude awakening

Good. He can wait in jail.

The kid was driving at 81 miles an hour. If you’re going to look at that area, you’ll see the time to cover that distance going at that speed is almost a blink of an eye. Nobody in this situation, including Usman Shahid had any time to react. Not the girls, not the driver of the 4 runner. No one. Death resulted because Usman Shahid should have never been driving that fast. There’s no reason. He was showing off. That’s why we have speed limits and laws about safe driving. By giving him the maximum sentence, that will hopefully deter others from doing the same. It may never happen again in that area but What about other high schools and other areas and neighborhoods.??

Sweetie, the lawyer already knows who is at fault. He knows better than you do.
