Will your high school senior play club

Anonymous
Is your high school senior planning on playing their senior year if they have no interest in playing at the next level?

Ours said they are leaning towards no because they want to enjoy their senior year and they are tired of missing thins for soccer.

We thought we would be sad about club ending but we are actually looking forward to it.

No HS senior yet but this probably sums up 90% of kids' playing experience in this area. And it began decades ago when players began eschewing D1 recruitment and spots in-state in Virginia because they were burnt out even though they ended up going to the schools to which they were recruited. Probably much worse burn-out for HS seniors who realize they'll never again -- I can see why they could tire of it. Life's short.

Anyone on the opposite end? Current HS players says that training is not all that great and it translates to kick ball soccer. Currently enjoys club more.

DS committed to d1 university will only play club. He doesn’t want to risk injury or spend too much time at hs soccer. He did varsity since sophomore year and knows they don’t have the talent depth to make a run to states.

DD is a senior and committed since her junior year.

She played varsity all 4 years and fell short last time.
She’s convinced they’ll win states this year.

Team is 95% ECNL and DA material.

you all missed my point, it isn't about high school vs club it is just not playing club the final year to enjoy life nothing to do with high school soccer.

We are also glad to not pay for it.

Material? Either they are or they are not. There is no team 90 percent ECNL level. And the DA doesn’t exist

Boys who are committed to playing college aren't going to take a season off. In most cases their club team is way better than their high school team anyway

Yep while you're taking a season off not doing anything all of your competition for playing time is going to be working hard doing this few months. Sounds great

If they don't want to play at the next level in other words in college, do whatever you like

Well, that was a secondary factor for ds. He has his puppy love girlfriend he would like to spend time with along with friends he may not see very often anymore. He gets to spend a few hours extra with them.

I did this. I played travel from age 10-17 on a very competitive Club team--5 time state champs, regional champs, undefeated league, etc. I was so burnt out and knew I did not want to play in college.

I also gave up 'HS soccer senior year. I made Varsity as a Freshmen and won State HS championship that year. It was spring season HS soccer and I was so over all the time sink, year-round soccer by then.

I had a great Senior year. I still ran track.

The only ones that kept it up were my teammates that definitely wanted to play in college, many were D1 commits. I had no passion left for it by Sophomore year, but hung on one more year.

Yes, material. Out of 25 girls 22 play in ECNL and GA. Former DA. And yes, there is such a team. My daughter’s.

Our club coaches dont want the players playing HS. There is too much risk with the poor quality of play in HS
