Can anyone share any insights about the principal who is leaving Maury ES in ACPS after four years? |
Leaving before the end of the school year during a pandemic while kids are returning for hybrid learning--also wondering about this. |
There’s a pandemic? Judging by time and energy I thought the only thing going on at ACPS was renaming schools. |
Maybe it was the abusive parents. |
Maury principal is a wonderful principal. He has been very attentive and helpful during our transition to hybrid. I was Shocked when he announced he was leaving. I was hoping that he would help coach us through the name change and get the kids excited about the prospect. Maury is full of gen X moms who are only “liberal” in voting record. I’m sure he faced many micro aggressions at Maury. I heard Him called “lazy” and “unprofessional” on the playground too many times to count. I know That being the only black, male principal of an elementary school in the state was important to him, but I also Know that he felt dissapointed by the changing demographics of the school. Maury used to be one of the most diverse schools but many of our black families from the Parker grey neighborhood are being forced out of old town by demolition and new development. He hoped that we would advocate for continued diversity to the school board. He told me one time that he was from Kentucky where racists fly a flag. Here, he said, they wear a mask and you think they are a friend until they show their colors. He was a great principal and had such a positive impact on our kids. He has a bright future ahead of him and let this be a wake up call for our school parents who need to appreciate great talent when we have it. |
So y’all really weren’t prepared for how many teachers and administrators are going to leave after this year? We’ve been telling you! |
I don't have an opinion of the man, but there aren't a lot of male principals, or teachers an elementary school to begin with. The demographics changed back through zoning a few years ago too, most of his tenure, reintroducing students from historical Parker-Grey from JH to Maury. Nice try though with your racist speculation agenda. |
Not an agenda. Just facts. Calling a black man “lazy” in casual conversation is a micro aggression, at best. I’ve also heard many people advocate for the new name of Maury to be “rosemont” because ACPS keeping “naming schools after black people”. Maury parents have been existing in a school named after a confederate and haven’t said a thing about it for years. They have their elitist and exclusionary gala each year and complain about a “lazy” black principal. It’s not veiled racism. It’s overt. |
I have first-hand experience. He used incorrect grammar when he spoke and was downright combative with parents. I’ve spent the last few years bypassing him and accessing the assistant principal who has been doing his job for him. This has NOTHING to do with race. We all had high hopes for him. |
You might need to read some articles about why grammar is is a function of an oppressive society. |
What about the principal of Jefferson-Houston? |
Fleet elementary in Arlington also has a black male principal. |
Is this why ACPS doesn't teach grammar? |
Assuming people are unintelligent or unprofessional because they use AAVE, which is a dialect that has defined speech patterns and its own grammar, and not standardized WHITE English is racist. It is. |
I am very sorry to hear this. While our children do not attend Maury we are long-time residents in Rosemont. His departure is a great loss for our community. Unfortunately our little area is overcome with racists and bigots as we see daily and as evidenced above by some of the respondents here.
I bid him well. He will find a better position elsewhere and he will be among a better class of people. |
