We have one of these at our neighboring ACPS ES. I think I can make a reasonable guess as to who the Maury person is and I don't blame him for moving on. Is this kind of entitled behavior exclusive to Alexandria? When I tell people who don't live here about our school's resident pushy/bully parent, they can't the level and extremes this person goes to. |
Well now we need more info on the scuttlebutt. What was the conflict and how did this parent/family exert influence? |
In APS they tend to form groups |
What kind of groups? |
Over the past year/18 months four ES principals have left ACPS (MacArthur, George Mason, JH, Barrett). Maury makes it five. So in that time ACPS is losing/has lost almost half of the ES principals.
This seems like very high turnover to me. Is it? |
J-H’s principal was horrible so his departure can only be seen as a good thing. Add that Polk’s principal is retiring at the end of the year. |
Are people sure this is true? The new job sounds like a step up (being in charge of a larger middle school vs. a small elementary). There was unlikely to be opportunity for a similar upward move in ACPS, given that Hammond and GW already both have strong principals. |
I thought he was ok. He did nothing wrong in his interactions with me or my kids. But, as a PP mentioned, he just wasn't as good as his predecessor, Ms. Jackson, who made the kids feel loved and encouraged. He didn't do anything to discourage the kids or make them feel bad, he just didn't have that warm, super outgoing personality like Ms. Jackson did. |
The entire admin team at MacArthur left in 2019: the principal (who was interim) and both APs. |
JH was unaccredited for years and nothing has changed except the state lowered the bar for accreditation, which actually undermines the credibility of any improvement. The principal, superintendent, and school board at a minimum should have been dumped for that. |
There were very few complaints, and many accolades, for Shawn DeRose when he was an AP at TJHSST and Stuart and then the Principal at Glasgow. Glasgow is not an easy assignment - it's a 6-8 middle school with almost 1800 kids and a 60% poverty rate. Only TC would be a tougher job in ACPS, or perhaps J-H. So if Powell is just OK, that's probably not going to cut it. |
Yeah and the old GM principal was no prize. |
He's fortunate to get out and into a new job before someone filed a lawsuit with respect to the inability of anyone at that school to understand IEPs and IDEA. |
Professional adults do not complain about "incorrect grammar" when someone is speaking. Virtually everyone makes grammatical mistakes when speaking. |
Professional adults do not confuse ignorance/lack of education with being acceptable/excusable because grammar is racist. Seriously, can we lower the bar some more and develop some other excuses for people who simply are not performing? Maybe the number of kids failing would not have doubled over the past year if we actually held people accountable. |
