| There’s that thread where OPs friends all married wealthy men. But I come from a family who are well within the top 1% and have a decent job on my own. And I don’t think any man has every cared. Granted I don’t flaunt my money, but being wealthy has literally never helped me in dating. So I assume this is just a thing that benefits men? |
| No, it benefits women too. |
| Being poor can hurt you in dating as a woman. You will be assumed to be a gold digger. In HS —HIGH SCHOOL— I dated a boy twice and in the car ride home, his dad asked me what I thought about prenups. I had no idea what that even was. |
LMFAO that's so inappropriate and weird! What a freak. Op, I don't think it really matters that much, but it kind of does. Men prefer women who are from similar backgrounds/education levels. Someone on YBM tried to tell me once "Any woman can marry rich, a billionaire would marry a Target check-out girl if he could!" LOL no, bb. A billionaire would be looking for an Ivy League MBA who speaks 25 different languages. |
Can a man chime in? No trolls. Do rich men really want an overachiever who speaks different languages and looks dont matter? |
I'm not saying looks don't matter but if you could choose a hot rich girl or a hot poor girl... |
This can't be real. You would know perfectly well that significant money attracts people, granted for the wrong reasons. |
OP here responding for the first time. And no, nobody has ever been attracted to my status. But I also don’t look very wealthy, I wear jeans, flannels or t-shirts, and no make-up. So it wouldn’t come up I’m fairly wealthy unless someone knew me well. When I mention a ski trip, prep school or something else they can figure it out. But I don’t normally talk about that stuff. |
You don’t need to be in the 1% to grow up with ski trips and prep school. It’s common enough in the UMC. |
|
Do you only hang out with people wealthier than you? Do you go to significant lengths to hide your wealth? If so, then maybe no one cares.
But when people with less money than you know, of course it's a factor. Look at Doris Duke, Princess Beatrice, 1/3 of the women in the NYT wedding announcements, Vicki on RHOC and the weirdo grifters she attracts. It ain't their looks. You sound very sheltered. |
Maybe the men you have dated really don’t care about your financial background. As you self-profess, you do not really talk about it though aside from occasionally mentioning some subtle “cues” you consider telling. Because you don’t really share this about yourself though, neither verbally or demonstrated in the way you dress/manicure yourself, I don’t really think your pulse on a male response to your financial background is particularly telling. Or certainly not compared to someone who does demonstrate their wealth more, and more openly shares this background. Just 2 cents to consider. That being said I think it plays in. To what degree varies on both individuals priorities, personalities, and relationship dynamic. I do not think it matters quite as much for females as for males though. |
Your status? You wrote you have money. What the hell is “status”? |
| I’m 48F and a high income earner. Absolutely men are attracted to it. Younger men for similar reasons young women like rich men. Older rich guys because they consider me at their level. |
Are you ugly? When it comes to men, money don't trump ugly. |
What do you do? |
