RANT ON! DC is making absolutely zero effort to clear snow from the bike lanes

Anonymous
I went out for a ride around lunchtime today and it was a near-death experience. None of the divided bike lanes are plowed, and what’s more, many of them have long ridges of ice piled into them from the snow plow trucks. They’re literally taking the ice off the streets so cars can drive and then pushing it all into the bike lanes. And if that’s not dangerous enough, walkers are now using the bike lane portion of the roads as a supplementary sidewalk, trying to avoid walking on the packed-down ice on the sidewalks. WTH, people?!?! It’s a BIKE lane! It’s not meant to be used by anyone NOT on a BIKE! And now we can’t even use them safely because of all the snow and ice being pushed onto them. At the very least, the city needs to invest in a fleet of small plows to clear the bike lanes. And ticket people walking in them. This is absolutely ridiculous.

It sounds like you blended in nicely with the winter snowflakes, OP.

Don’t bike in the ice and snow. That is the last and least of any conceivable winter weather priority.

Not surprising, OP. Bicyclists are very much secondary citizens in the US. Please complain to your local elected officials.

Speak for yourself.

Why on gods green earth would they prioritize bike lanes in an ice storm? They have barely main streets. And even the slightest bit of ice makes biking dangerous anyhow. Use a 4-wheeled vehicle or your 2 feet.

Stay home OP. Your riding for leisure is not, nor should it be anyone's priority.

Or go clear the lanes yourself. YOU are the one who's being absolutely ridiculous.

I’m just so mad tho. Just want to scream in frustration. And no one is accountable. This city does NOTHING for you if you’re not a driver or a walker.

Is this a troll post? I’m going with yes, yes it is.

Says the American Car Driver, unable to understand that a large swathe of the urban population would be more upwardly mobile if they could bike safely, because they don’t own cars.

In other countries, bike lanes are cleared FIRST.

Yeah... that's not normal. Just go for a walk OP.

Your rage is seriously misplaced.

Maybe a case could be made if anyone biked in bad weather around here. But they don't. So no, it won't ever be a priority.

Why should I do it? I pay taxes. That’s the city’s job. What are they doing instead? Only plowing roads for cars, despite dedicated bike lanes going untouched.

Right, so people can go to their essential jobs.

What an entitled lycra shit you are to think your leisure ride is remotely important.
