RANT ON! DC is making absolutely zero effort to clear snow from the bike lanes

But our bike lane network is utter shit, so it matters so much less.

Until DC builds it and catches up with civilized cities of the world, OP, you'll be the odd one out using bike lanes, and people will assume you wear lycra and are using it for leisure.

*I'm aware of the redundancy between the terms network and interconnected, but I'm trying to evoke a visual here.

I'd like to take back the bolded. Every time I've used the protected bike lanes that do exist, I've shared them with a LOT of riders.

This thread once again proves just how insufferable cyclists are.

I think we'd all rather be married to or quarantined with gilbert gottfried than deal with the middle aged angry white lycra men who constantly complain how no one ever thinks about them.

OP,

they are working on a bike mounted snow plow, but they are having difficult with the design and getting volunteers to actually go out and operate the yet untested human powered plows...

if you are so concerned and you need your cardio, grab a shovel and start shoveling. maybe once you start paying road use fees, like tags, registration and fuel tax equivalent you'll have grounds for complaining.

I can already use any part of the road I wish to without paying those fees and taxes that you choose to as a condition of driving a vehicle, dummy. If you were smart you’d be riding a bike for free, too. But thanks for being stupid and driving a car, and paying all those taxes and fees that maintain the roads that get to use totally free! Love ya!

Total troll post. Every real bike advocate knows that car-related taxes and fees come nowhere near paying for local road maintenance.

I assure you, I’m definitely a “real” cycling advocate. And if you could see my legs you’d have zero doubt about it. But I confess to taking occasional joy in pointing out that you pay tor the roads that I get to use for free. Schadenfruede on my behalf

But seriously, DC, clear the damn bike lanes.

This is literally the most iconic privileged middle aged white guy complaint ever posted. It's fascinating.

Whatever. Bike lanes and healthy food in DCPS may be demands of the privileged white in the minds of many, but they would benefit poor black people disproportionately if fulfilled.

Oh please middle aged white guy cyclist who very likely spends excessive amounts on his leisure cycling hobby, tell us more about what's best for black people, poor people, and minorities. Pretty please with sugar on top?

I just don't know who would bike to work in the ice? It doesn't seem safe with all the salt, gravel and ice. And I'm married to a biker.

No, you're just a lame troll. Anyone who actually cared about cycling wouldn't be on here saying stuff like that.

Most people who ride bikes pay no taxes as they are children

Not the troll OP, but you might want to look up while driving every so often.

Basic truth #1: people ride bikes for transportation (to get from Point A to Point B)

Basic truth #1a: people even do this when the weather is not nice

Basic truth #2: there is no inherent reason why the city must clear the snow from general-travel lanes by plowing it into the bike lanes and pedestrian crossing areas

Basic truth #3: there is no inherent reason why the city is responsible for clearing the snow from the general-travel lanes but adjacent property owners are responsible for clearing the snow from the sidewalks and pedestrian crossing area

Basic truth #4: car-related fees (gas tax, registration, etc.) do not cover the public costs of building and maintaining the car-related road system - i.e., everyone subsidizes the car-related road system, whether or not they own/drive a car.

Do you people seriously think the only people who ride bikes are middle-aged white guys in Lycra? Do you ever look at who’s actually on bicycles downtown?
