| WTF is up with guys wearing these tights/leggings with a pair of gym shorts on top of them? Is there some sort of practical reason as to why some guys do this? It baffles me and seems like the dumbest fashion statement akin to me wearing a bra over a top. |
| Women wear shorts over leggings all the time. |
| I don’t think men are super comfortable wearing essentially “tights” as pants in public. Unless they are bikers or speedo wearers, there is no equivalent item they would wear. |
No equivalent? What about sweat pants? If the purpose of the legging is to provide warmth, why not wear sweat pants instead of shorts? |
|
My husband does this when working out in the cold. He gets the warmth from the tights and the coverage from the shorts.
What is the issue? |
| They are uncomfortable with how revealing tights are in the groin/butt. You can definitely see peen outline in tights. |
I assume any woman exercising with shorts over tights is very self conscious. See also: exercise skorts. Whatever works! |
| Woman here and I prefer when men do this if their pants are too tight. Gross. |
It's this. Leggings/tights are much easier/better to workout in than sweatpants, and a lot of men aren't comfortable in just the leggings. I feel like this is quite obvious?? |
Have you ever tried to run ten miles in sweatpants? Chafing city, ouch! The leggings provide support and sometimes compression; the shorts on top are for modesty and sometimes also pockets or other benefits. |
|
I assume OP is taking about at the gym. That’s where I’ve seen it. And they aren’t running.
When I first started seeing it, I assumed they were gay—but too many guys are doing it, there’s no way they are all gay. |
I guess my confusion comes from the newness of this trend. Guys ran and worked out for decades in regular sweatpants and I wasn't aware that sweatpants caused so many issues (though I might have been ignorant to the issue). Either way it's just a funky looking style that seems to have popped up in the last couple of years. Plus most of the time I see guys doing this at the gym and not on long distance runs. RE: modestly. I might be totally missing the point but as long as a guy is wearing underwear under those tights, what is the modestly concern? Wouldn't underwear "keep everything in place?" |
| I assume OP is older—lots of boys/younger guys have been doing this for years. |
| Gays |
OP, do you wear bulky sweatpants when you go running? Why do you care what someone else wears? |
