How difficult is it?
Vaccinate the 4,000 teachers. About 2 weeks worth of vaccine supplies the district receives. Then let us open schools and get families back to work. No more endless arguments about what is safe, who's at fault, etc. etc. Many school districts are making this a priority. I'm a teacher and like most of my colleagues we'd go back in a heartbeat. |
| But that won't end the drama. There are other issues being raised by teachers and no one has ever said that, so long as teachers are offered the vaccine, they agree to go back. |
This. Our school IS vaccinating all the teachers and in person staff but still won't commit to reopen! Saying: covid case rate needs to anyway be very very low, whatabout kids transmitting back home, I don't know what else, yadda yadda, we won't open but we'll certainly take up your vaccines right now. |
| Also, note that OSSE is refusing to relax their strict and difficult to follow guidance on numbers of kids in rooms and cohorts etc, even after vaccinating the school staff. |
| I just heard on WAMU this morning that a bunch of teachers had signed up to be vaccinated, and their appointments were cancelled without being rescheduled. |
Boo hoo. They'll get their first in line vaccine. This is the shit the rest of the city/country is also dealing with. |
| We're hearing that a significant number of teachers at our school don't want to get vaccinated. So, I'm not sure vaccinations solve the problems at our charter. |
I'm hearing that teachers want all the kids to be vaccinated, too, before they go back. Meaning....DL for years, I guess. |
| Because the teachers are also saying that the safety of the vaccine is not a guarantee. Their definition of "safe" keeps on shifting. |
| I mean, my kids' teachers are returning to in-person teaching next week, so I'd rather they be vaccinated. It's a bummer that teachers who are willing to return in person can't get vaccinated. It would make teachers and kids safer, and reduce the potential for disruption if a teacher gets COVID. |
| I want everyone in the school to be required to be vaccinated and then return in person. |
There's no way this will happen. I work in pediatric vaccine trials and it could easily be 2023 before we have a vaccine for under age 12. There is no way the city will keep kids out of class for 3-4 years. This will be life-altering for kids from much of the city--as in they'll end up illiterate if they miss 3 years of having any elementary learning. |
If this includes students, then you're looking at a very long time before seeing the inside of a school building. |
| Another teacher here. Not doing in-person so wasn't offered a vaccine and no info about when I'll be offered. The mayor should have prioritized ALL staff in all schools and daycares. Many teachers want to go back to teaching in schools but can't. Just so that you know. |

Btw just taking a break between PD and grading, before all the claws come out saying why aren't you working!
