I'm a fan of this show but I realized and strongly suspect that the people the Americans meet from other countries have a prostitution background.

I think most have limited options and are trying to get themselves out of bad situations.

Now that I think about it almost all of them. Annie, Larissa, rose, Julianna, Fernanda, anfisa, off the top of my head. There's many more though. If their last string of hope was marrying up they are most likely to do it with an older, uglier, or broke man from America.

I sadly count the show among my guilty pleasures and have watched from the start. I wish they selected more couples who met in real life, versus the whole online mail order bride met on social media thing. There are a couple the season who met more organically. I just wish we saw that more than the ones that seem like scams from the start.

I think Annie was a prostitute, but so what? She's proven herself to be witty and funny, and seems devoted to David. Good for her for making a better life for herself.

Fernanda was 16 or 17 and Jonathan met her at a night club. What makes you think she was a prostitute, opposed to Jonathan being a pedophile. I did not get prostitute from her. I sensed young, naive, and spoiled from Fernando.

They are one of my least favorites - so obnoxious and either highly toxic or the manufactured drama is over the top. The whole family chantel are the worst, if not close to it.

I agree with pp, Loren and Alexei are among my favorites! I miss seeing Tarek on pillow talk though, his commentary was always gold.

Julianna was a model who met her older wealthier fiance at a yacht party (Epstein anyone?). Her visa interviewer also suggested with plenty of cause that she was a former prostitute judging by her passport stamps at an early age. For a very poor person in a developing country the only way up is through selling their bodies unfortunately.

I was referring to Dominican Annie! But now that you mentioned the other Annie I agree too! See, so many women with prositution backgrounds clever enough to hitch a ride on the back of a dumb American. I agree it should be illegal to hitch a ride here through marriage!
