I believe she said that she was at an awards ceremony for the activist when she heard that she was being withdrawn. She had learned about the smear campaign earlier. She heard about "she's going to go through some things" when the phone record was released in September. By that time she had been back in the US for some months.

Schiff was good on not taking the bait. A lot of these rules were set by GOP when they controlled the House - clearly they wanted to be ready to impeach Obama at the slightest opening. There were hours upon hours, weeks upon weeks of private testimony during Benghazi in the SCIF so the bunker reference would be hilarious if the GOP was not so dead set on frightening the whistleblower and others.
