Does anyone know when the results come out? Seems like it should be quicker bc it is online.

My kid said this was the hardest AMC 8 ever. Is it true? This is his first time, so not sure.

Depends on what grade your kid is in. As they grow up it becomes easier each year so difficult to say without the results. The 2018 AMC is tougher as I think the cut off score to get into AMC 10 that year is 15. It usually is 18 or 19 I think. We have to see what this year's cutoff would be.

There is no cutoff score to get into AMC 10. AMC 8 is a standalone test. AMC 10 is open to anyone who wants to take it.

My son has taken AMC 8 for the last 3 years. He thought this year was the toughest. The problems weren't necessarily tougher, but they were time consumptive and very tricky. He mocked a bunch of old tests, and scored 23-25 on all of them. He thinks he got a 19 or 20 this year. I would expect there to be a lot of cheating this year, so the Honor Roll cutoffs will likely be higher than they ought to be.

The questions and answers have been released. 12yo dd got at least a 17 but had to guess on the last 5 because she ran out of time. I think it was harder to take online than with paper and pencil. It was her first competition.

My kid took the test online and had her answers on scratch paper.

RE cheating: how the heck could a kid cheat?

Someone posted all of the test questions on a forum before the testing window had closed. Anyone who was able to see the questions before taking the test would have had a huge advantage. Also, kids could have used calculators, talked to friends, or even had parents helping.

That can happen any year, right? Calculators don’t really help according to my dd. And we had a test proctor watching and listening to kids while they took the test.

Parents were allowed to proctor too. I really wish they required official proctors over zoom. Last year’s math kangaroo showed that many parents will cheat for their kids when they’re allowed to proctor. Also, generally everyone takes the test on the first day, but this year, a lot of people took it later in the week.

My kid made honor roll last year, but I warned him not to expect it this year.

This was my kid's first year taking this test and I was her proctor. I had to certify that I was present for the test and she did not cheat.

Curious why would a kid cheats in test like this. What would be the gain out there...just to show off?! I don’t quite understand the motivation.
