Low calorie foods for shredding?

Anonymous
Does anyone have suggestions? I just found some shirataki pasta and it was pretty good. But expensive. So, I am looking for low calorie, high volume foods. Any other low calorie pasta suggestions?Low-calorie breads? It doesn't have to be low carb at all. I realize that I am not really losing weight at this point, I want to shred. Meaning lose some 5-10lbs to be leaner and have my abs more defined. But, it is not easy as I love food and I am older now and a woman. Should I really eat carbs 2 days per week if I am doing anabolic type eating? Thanks in advance!

You need a high-protein diet and to lift heavy. The shredded look is about high muscle mass as much as low fat. But also, there are significant limits to what you can achieve naturally without use of anabolic steroids.

Thanks for replying. Do I need to lift heavy even if I don't want to bulk up? Just look wiry and a bit shredded? I am 115 lbs, I am not sure that I can look that muscular without weight gain?

Green beans and chicken breasts are standard weight lifter shredding diet.

But WHY OP. You aren’t overweight and are an “older” woman. Is having the ab definition of a fitness professional really worth the starvation and diet restriction? You are likely going to contribute to done density degeneration if you keep at it.

Don’t answer that “why” question! You deserve to feel better about yourself at any age. Eat protein! At 115 lbs, you sb eating 100 grams/day. Carbs should be fruits and veggies. Use MyFitnessPal and track what you eat. I’d suggest 40% carbs, 30% fat, 30% protein. Find a calorie calculator online and determine what your base calorie intake is and just try getting the %s right before actually cutting calories. See food as fuel. You won’t get bulky; that is a myth. Read Stacy Sims’ book Roar. You can do this!

Oh, and actually, the “why” is to live longer and healthier. The above is obviously a troll. Of that person doesn’t understand how women lose muscle as they age, then they should get off social media and learn something. You need a strong core to hold up your skeletal system! You need to protect your bones and overall health.

I don't know exactly what look you're going for, but if you want to look "lean", then yeah, protein/lifting heavy. It doesn't have to be barbells if you don't want (it doesn't really matter). You will definitely be limited in terms of how muscular you can get if you don't want to gain weight. But it sounds like the look you're going for is to lower your body fat and retain as much muscle as you gain or gain muscle. That's difficult if you're already thin, but protein/lifting is the best way that doesn't resort to serious drug use.

Do you think? What about my stomach being bloated if I eat more? I am very defined everywhere but in my belly. I build muscle fast. I have abs at 110lbs visible, so I was told that the only way not to have stomach fat hanging is to shred. Do you think that is just the way I am now that I am older? I also eat oatmeal, breads, etc... You don't have to eat only protein to be kind of super defined and lean.

Yes, that is what I was going for. I do have muscle, but not abs like I used to. It is harder at my age. But, I am blessed that I do not really gain weight easily. I have some neck nerve pain so that is preventing me from some heavy lifting (heavy for me, not for male or female professionals, I am not delusional).

Thanks so much! I guess having been pretty lean and defined most of my life, I am finding it hard not to have abs like I used to.

Butternut squash used as lasagna noodles, turnip noodles (whole foods sales this prepackaged in the fresh vegetable section), spaghetti squash. Have seen zucchini noodles, or chickpea noodles for a high protein boost.

Have you tried jackfruit BBQ? Or Jicama loaded fries?
