| Despite doing IF 4-5 times a week, gluten and dairy free, and doing pilates 2-4 times a week, I have gained 15 lbs in covid. Previously walked 50 m to work and back and around large work building. Don’t drink. Am 50. What is going on? I eat 4-5 sq dark choc per day and 1/2 cup almonds. Otherwise do bulletproof coffee, one apple, one serving berries. 1-5 serving veg, small amounts of rice. Fish, avocado or meat for dinner, or veg omelet. I cannot get scale to move. Is it the walking? Help! |
| Start walking for at least one hour a day |
| Add the walk back, or delete the nuts and chocolate |
| Be honest with yourself about what you are actually consuming each day. Lack of a 50 minute walk is not what is causing your weight gain. |
|
IF makes no difference to weight gain or loss. How much you eat per day does.
In fact, IF is used as a excuse to overeat by many people. Calculate your resting metabolic rate and go from there. |
| Track the food religiously for one week. |
| Regular cardiovascular exercise, OP. |
|
Telework is most likely causing you to not burn the 400-500 calories a day that you previously did so for a start add that back.
That will probably just help you maintain weight. You'll need to add extra exercise and consume fewer calories to lose 15. I'm doing this as well and admit it is not fun (the fewer calories part; I do enjoy the exercise). |
| Youre 50. Sadly that means your body is against you. So hou can be hungry and thin or not hungry and some extra pounds. |
+1 Track you calories for a week or two. Be honest about everything you are consuming and the quantities. You don't gain 15 lbs simply by not walking as much. You are likely eating more because you are home. There are so many times we grab a small bit of food here and there and those calories add up quickly. When you say the scale isn't moving. How long have you been doing what you say you are doing? How many days a week do you hit your calorie target? how often are you weighting yourself? |
I also need to know quantities of everything you listed. Sure it all sounds "healthy" on paper? But the chocolate and almond's alone could be 600 cal and depending on the amount of fat in the bulletproof coffee that could be well over 200 calories. Avocado is also a quick way to add on a bunch of calories. I would also like to know that you are doing this 7 days a week or do you eat "well" 5 days and do whatever on the weekends? I don't think you are being honest with yourself on the amount of calories you are consuming. |

You’re eating too much for how much you’re moving, period.
1/2 cup almonds = 420 cal. Bulletproof coffee = 200 cal. 5 squares chocolate = 150 calories. That’s Almost 800 calories before you even add in nutritious food. Depending on your walking pace, that 50min might burn 300 cal or so. Add that in, and adjust your diet accordingly. It will take a decent deficit to SEE weight loss, but it’s also taken you a while to gain it. |
| This has happened to me too. If I fast for a few days it does come off. But I eat way more "healthy calories" now than when I was at work all day and skipped lunch. My bowl of blueberries with mixed almonds walnuts and pistachios probably has 600 calories in it. And I don't move. I'm lying down to work.... |
How do you figure that? Let’s say she only burned an additional 200 calories a day. That adds up over time. Op, go back to walking if you can. Perhaps just add a “commute” back in and walk 25 minutes before work and 25 minutes after. |
| 1/2 cup of almonds is a lot, that is 2 servings and probably 400 cal just for the almonds. I would scale it to 1/4 cup and 2 squares chocolate and walk more. Or just have 2 squares of chocolate and cut the almonds out all together. |
