Yes, it means she has 6 figures of grad school loans, hasn't been paying for 2+ years, and probably 5 figures of accrued interest. Very clever way to use that to promote a right-wing cause though. Basically she isn't worried about $10k because it would only make a small dent in her accrued interest.

Good luck! One of your right-wing organizations is going to challenge the forgiveness and payment pause which will make the Republicans responsible for all young people getting hit with student loan bills again. Better start getting comfortable with Millennial and Gen Z progressive values.

This will, however, turn off a lot of Independents who Democrats and Biden desperately need right now.

+1

I know several democrats that are seriously pissed about this debt forgiveness.

Actually I’m a lifelong independent and ardent Obama and Clinton supporter who simply sees the idiots in charge for what they are……hopelessly incompetent imbeciles that throw money at problems instead of doing the actual work to solve underlying problems. It’s pretty apparent that Susan rice is calling the shots for the senile prop of a president and I didn’t vote for Susan rice.

I’m a teacher who makes less than $125k but with my husband’s income we make about $300k, so I don’t think I’m eligible, right? Boo.

Possible to file separately? You'd have to do the math to see if it is worth it. It's also based on AGI, so if you contribute to health and a 401k, it reduces your AGI.

Lol. You think an American teacher can do math?

If you’re not trolling — the deadline for taking out a qualifying loan was June 2022. I wouldn’t hold your breath for this to happen again anytime soon.

Thank You Mr./Ms. Internet Economist.

You can take your "both sides" BS and stick it.

So many wealthy people for whom 10k is a drop in the bucket and who benefit from all sorts of tax loopholes for the rich and gigantic PPP loan forgiveness are making a lot of noise about someone earning 50k a year getting a break for once. Can’t have those poors getting something they don’t qualify for!

Exactly this.

Also they fail to realize that college has gotten so much more expensive than back in the 1980s and 90s because states slashed funding for colleges to make taxes cheaper.
