Elon Musk buys $3 billion stake (9.2%) in Twitter and is now the platform's largest shareholder

Because Twitter will become a platform for free speech. Why do you think that the company itself will support Russia?

Hilarious. Musk had skin as thin as onion peels. He’s going to be censoring his critics left and right. While encouraging the crazies promoting their lies. “Free speech”

I guess he’s trying to botch the deal via national security review. He can then make the claim that he’s a victim of government overreach, all while not having to cough up $44 billion.

I’ve been wondering since his latest announcement about the purchase if he’s just trying to delay the trial until the funding expires.

Why not both? He’s trying to throw the kitchen sink at this thing to get out of it. He doesn’t have the funding, imho. He was hoping on Delaware Chancery to delay things while also not opening himself to discovery, but the Delaware courts don’t play like that.

I can’t imagine any large regulated bank underwriting debt for this transaction. It’s an overpriced loser and the downside risk is huge.

From what I've read, they don't really have a choice at this point. They apparently signed agreements to fund the loans several months ago and the agreements don't give them many outs. We'll see, but it looks like it's going to close on Friday.

I'm really hoping this is the development that kills Twitter.

Me too.

I hope it tanks like everything Trump touches.

Musk isn't the brains not like he invested Tesla. He stole it just like everything else.

He read Hitler's book if he can read or Peter Theil is pulling his strings.

Either way, i hope Twitter dies.

I'll be sad if Twitter dies. I use it as a news feed, getting up-to-date information on breaking news, or an interesting trial or a current sports event. I follow history, art, literary accounts, and learn something new almost every day.

It can be invaluable during a breaking weather event, or natural disaster, or wildfire, or war. It's a great way to keep people informed of what's going on when they're in such a crisis.

I think there is a great opportunity for a public service platform similar to Twitter for federal, state, and local governments. Especially where the commenters are moderated and focused on factual information.

Similarly, I can already envision a coalition of media/journalism entities creating their own version of Twitter. Again, that is moderated and troll-free.

I dislike Twitter because even the most banal of government information gets bogged down by trolls and fake bots derailing information flow.

Any evidence?

If he actually gets rid of moderation, I expect it will effectively turn into another Truth Social. No normal person will want to wade through racist and violent threats, conspiracy theories, etc. and no normal advertiser will want to associate themselves with that.
