I'll be sad if Twitter dies. I use it as a news feed, getting up-to-date information on breaking news, or an interesting trial or a current sports event. I follow history, art, literary accounts, and learn something new almost every day. It can be invaluable during a breaking weather event, or natural disaster, or wildfire, or war. It's a great way to keep people informed of what's going on when they're in such a crisis.
I think there is a great opportunity for a public service platform similar to Twitter for federal, state, and local governments. Especially where the commenters are moderated and focused on factual information. Similarly, I can already envision a coalition of media/journalism entities creating their own version of Twitter. Again, that is moderated and troll-free. I dislike Twitter because even the most banal of government information gets bogged down by trolls and fake bots derailing information flow.
