Does this make any sense? Most people still cannot get out of their neighborhoods. |
this is outrageous! I feel for the teachers who could get in trouble if they don't show up. Many live in the suburbs where plowing hasn't even started!!! |
Who knows how to protest this? I have no way to get DD to school, we are not within walking distance. We could take a bus, except, right, it's not running. This is just asinine. |
I am not telling my DC that he has school tomorrow. He won't be there. The roads are still terrible. |
I am a DC teacher and I am bit upset over this. If I don't go in, I may not get in trouble, but I can just imagine this being held against me during the next round of RIF's.
And Rhee would be quoted as saying, "Some of these teachers had sex with students, hit students, and didn't put in enough effort to make it to work after the blizzard of 2010." |
Isn't there another way to feed the children breakfast and lunch? |
I just emailed Michelle Rhee. I suggest others do the same. The roads will be worse tomorrow after this all ices over. In addition to the condition of roads and sidewalks, pieces of ice are still falling from roofs and branches are still coming down. It's dangerous and kids should not be out in it. Delays are suitable for conditions that are expected to significantly improve. |
I don't understand the logic. So all side streets, sidewalks, and school parking lots are all safe? What are they trying to prove? |
Um, I think that hers are made of brass. |
She's an idiot, so Goverment is closed too dangerous for them but not the kids? That is awful |
Roughly half of the houses on our block have shoveled their sidewalks. Two houses, one on a corner, are vacant; the corner house at the end never shovels the long stretch of sidewalk on the side of their house. We're only one block from a major road and haven't seen a plow.
This seems like just another example of the Fenty administration not understanding what the lives of actual DC residents are like. |
Maybe Rhee's gonna be gracious enough to pick up those teachers who are still snowed in on her broomstick...... |
This is so stupid. I feel bad for all of the teachers. I can keep my kids home but the teachers and administrators have to make there way to work and pretend to teach on a day where many kids will be absent.
So stupid. |
I am all for the kids getting their breakfasts and lunches, but it seems in this case there could have been a better decision..how about open up only for lunch distributions at schools where some key staff can make it in? I am a DCPS teacher in MoCo, we've been without power since Fri. night, and I will NOT be able to make it in tomorrow with no metro service. Rhee thinks she knows more than the fed. govt..I used to be a supporter but her sheer pride and arrogance are such huge turn offs these days. |
