Why are schools open tomorrow with no Metro service and Fed govt closed?

I wonder if Fenty was contacted? The roads are going to ice over tomorrow. I believe the decision needs to be reversed.

I wonder if Michelle Rhee has a driver or had employees of the DC government dig her out?

I can't even walk down the sidewalks.....at each intersection, there are unploughed sections
I want to see the yellow buses manage to get all these wheelchair bound kids loaded up tomorrow...but wait, they won't HAVE to provide transport for special education students, cos THEY all go to school in MARYLAND or VIRGINIA, and they have closed...

I totally understand the logic... In DC most of the kids go to neighborhood schools and can walk to school! Rather than in the Burbs and rural areas where they rely more on cars and the school bus (which is likely unsafe). A lot of the government workers draw from areas way outside of the district and it would be more dangerous to have them drive in.

I am glad that my child has school tomorrow.. also, think of the kids that get 2 our of their 3 meals a day for free trough public schools.

I'm certain if Michelle had been able to get rid of the Union teachers would've gotten the entire day off. Rhee is an egomaniac.

I live in Glover Park ("North Georgetown") but teach in Columbia Heights. I usually take two buses to get to work. Glover Park is not plowed, there are trees down, and the bus that runs through the neighborhood I know will not be running tomorrow in these inclement conditions. I don't have a car but even if I did I would not be able to get it out of this neighborhood. What do I do?

They can walk to school or slippery sidewalks? Did it ever occur to you that the sidewalks will be iced over. And for two, there's buses that have to go down side streets to get some kids.

You know Michelle teachers actually have lives too and children and we don't make $270K plus a $40K signing bonus so we have to pay for child care.

watch the news tomorrow to hear about children falling, etc. That's what's going to happen

Underground metro doesn't help those of us who live in Georgetown/Glover Park... as you know there is no Metro in this neighborhood!

Watch kids show up to empty schools b/c none of us teachers can get in. That'll make for some good press!

only elementary school kids go to school within walking distance. MS and HS students take the metrobus which isn't running and even if it was kids would still be waiting for the bus in the street. I think it will take a child walking in the street getting hit and killed to make them come to their senses.

There is no logic in this decision. Just the pride they have behind them to say they opened schools. What makes you think that the cafeteria workers are going to get to school to feed the kids?

Will you be this supportive of this decision after some kid gets hurt walking on the street?!
