Why are schools open tomorrow with no Metro service and Fed govt closed?

Yes it was. And how about the teachers? Will we be penalized for deeming it unsafe to come to work? The fed. govt. has deemed it unsafe for their commuters, and from my location in Montgomery County it would be very unsafe. Thanks for nothing (yet again) Michelle Rhee. Your disdain and lack of respect for us teachers could not be more clear.

yet there's no phone call....

Yes, today.

It is ridiculous.

I think it is terrible that teachers will have to go to DCPS, and they may not live in DC. That is flat out wrong. Teachers should not be penalized if they cannot make it in and they shouldn't ahve to take personal leave.

Just wondering what they are going to do with all of the students who show up whose teachers don't. Are they going to out the classes w/ no teachers all together? Like babysitting? Very few teachers who teach in DC actually live there. It is too $$$$. What a joke!

good point
this is not a 'normal' snowfall...most teachers don't own hummers...

if people are emailing fenty and rhee, they might as well email vincent gray and/or their councilmembers too.

And if kids won't be penalized for not being there they can't be teaching much. The message was posted this evening, it wasn't there late this afternoon when the delay message went up.

I still can't tease out their reasoning.

Please contact the council members. This is just not fair to the school staff. Many cannot get to work. Who will supervise the kids?!

Let's not forget Ward 2

I live on a "snow emergency route" on Ward 3. No plow since Friday night.

True, I am a teacher and while I choose to live in the city to be fairly close to my school and feel connected to the DC community, I don't own a car at all. And we all know what Metro has been like these days! The bus is not running in my neighborhood. Tomorrow will be about herding the children around... there will be no purposeful instruction.

So this is her only decision that causes you to doubt her? It it her decision alone to open or close schools?
