I am not moved by the "let's feed the kids" reasoning. Where was this reasoning when they decided to schedule all those days of PD where kids are not in school on Fridays? Like this Friday? How will those kids eat then???? Where was the concern then?

Please, that's just an auto reply.

Our charter school ALWAYS follows DCPS... and yet, tomorrow our charter is closed. The principal felt it was too dangerous, the streets are not plowed enough near the school for drop-off. Great decision and yet another reason I'm glad we chose charter.

I totally hear what everyone is saying. I do. I imagine it's going to be very hard on teachers to get into schools tomorrow, and this certainly won't help the already fraught the relationship between Rhee and teachers.

But.... All I can think about is the kids who rely on school for meals having just spent a long, cold weekend with access to even less food than they normally have. For many kids in the city, school is a refuge. After a weekend like this, I understand the desire to give these kids a warm place to go. DCPS's message says that it's up to parents; for those able to provide a warm place and healthy meals, it's probably better to keep your kids home. But considering how many kids in this city who rely on school for more than just education, I think the impulse to keep schools open is the right one.

I agree with the comments. Fenty and Rhee are insane. I don't even have a child in school yet but I started calling around DC to complain about Fenty/Rhee's decision as soon as I heard. I even called the news. My husband is a DCPS teacher and it means he has to drive along these unplowed slippery streets and risk getting in an accident or stuck on the road for Fenty/Rhee's stupidity!?!

classic, I wonder how many people will show up anyway
