Boundary Review Meetings

think they are just caught up in the moment.

A kid still in diapers like the PP has does not have a community relationship with WSHS....

Im that PP. you’re right- that child doesn’t. But my others do! They play in the neighborhood everyday, these are their closest friends and who they will be split with. I use the community comment repetitively because that’s what SA and others are saying “don’t disrupt the community” and “the students will be sad being separated from the rest of Sangster.” And I am just reiterating, that is not the case. The kids in our neighborhood are happy to continue with their friends. this is our community.

The Sangster split feeder is a no brainer.

Sangster parents have bedn asking for at least a drcade or more to eliminate the split feeder and send the entire school to Lake Braddock.

This resistance is very new and is as if they are just getting caught up in the anti rezoning sentiment

If FCPS had decided to eliminate the Sangster split feeder before this 8130 BRAC mess, the families would have been thrilled.

Sorry, calling absolute BS on this. The West Orange Hunt neighborhood that walks to Sangster is super connected to West Springfield. Those families 100% bought their homes because they are part of West Springfield. They are physically closer to West Springfield and Irving, and would have the longest increased commute times in region 4 if moved. Sangster was built for the West Springfield community...far before South Run and other neighborhoods were developed. If you don't live there I suggest you stick with talking points for your own neighborhood.

Lake Braddock is closer to them than Irving.

Sansgter does all their stuff with Lake Braddock (like the pyramid events) not WSHS.

All the community activities such as little league, soccer, scouts, theater, dance and churches are a combination of Lake Braddock and WSHS families. There is SOOOO much overlap socially between Lake Braddock and Sangster.

I had a kid at Sangster, and it blows my mind that out of the blue the families in that Sangster neighborhood are acting like Lake Braddock is some far off location with no connection to the Sangster community. Until this year, most of those families would have been thrilled to get sent to the same high school as 80-90% of their classmates.

Many, many Lake Braddock/Sangster families are flabbergasted, and actually insulted, about that neighborhood being so up in arms over potential rezoning to Lake Braddock. It make no sense whatsoever.

West Springfield is a better school and not a secondary...so I'm not sure why LB families are 'flaggergasted'

It isn’t. LBSS is better in any given year on test scores than WSHS. Not by much but arguing WSHS is so much better doesn’t pass the smell test.

https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/virginia Jealous much?

WSHS is 8 in this one and LBSS is 10. You just made my point.

We could be looking at moving from WSHS to Lewis. Try comparing those in the rankings.

What FCPS really needs to do is focus on improving Lewis and making it a place folks would actually want to send their kids to, instead of playing musical chairs.

Lewis’s problem is the population, not the school. How are you proposing to change that?

I’m just wondering, those who are opposed to Sangster split feeder, why does it matter to you? If your kids aren’t involved, let us fight for what we want for our kids. If the split makes both sides happy. And no one is objecting it. Yes the overcrowding is an issue. But that will be fixed if they would audit the school for those who truly live in the boundaries.

DP. An eight year old is in second or third grade, so, in addition to having a kid in diapers, she’s likely been involved in the community for years. My kids at that point had a very strong sense of community. Just because your family doesn’t care about community doesn’t mean others are the same. I don’t have a dog in the ws fight, but it’s annoying when people pretend community doesn’t matter. The school board’s whole boundary platform is based on a lack of understanding about community.

What do you mean by 'population'. If you mean that it is underpopulated, look at all the neighborhoods over the years who fought to be moved out of Lewis? Could FCPS focus on making Lewis more attractive in terms of programming?

DP, the first place to start is to bring the hundreds of kids who transfer out of Lewis back to the school.

Because some kids will be moved out of WSHS. And some neighborhoods are looking at moving to South County or Lewis. And this neighborhood is looking at LBSS and keeping that whole neighborhood together. There will be a fight.

Im talking about the Sangster families who are fighting to erase the splitfeed, but their students aren’t going to be moved Why are they so up in arms about some other kids asking to stay at WSHS

I'm a sangster parent and am all for erasing the split feeder. I don't want part of my kids social group to dissappear in middle school and would love stability for all kids.

Their entire neighboehood and all their neighborhood friends would go to Lake Braddock with all of their classmates from school.

I am still not seeing the issue.

I agree with the Daventry posters, that complaining about going to Lake Braddock from WSHS with your entire community and all of your kids' neighbors, classmates and friends is just a strange thing to get upset about.

They aren't getting uprooted from their communities like many of the other proposed rezoning from across the county.

They are staying in their community and moving to their community middle and high school.

So are you currently zoned for WSHS or do you just not want your kids’ Irving/WSHS to leave them?

If the school is getting rezoned, Sangster to LB makes the most sense.

It eliminates a split feeder
It cuts way back on bus transportation since the LB busses already drive through that neighborhood every dingle day
It keeps communities together
It moves them to an equal quality school with a lot of community overlap with WSHS

There are many more reasons why the Sangster neighborhood is the least disruptive and most sensible rezoning option for WSHS of any of the possible suggestions.

Most people don't want communities disrupted.

Rezoning Sangster from a split feeder to a school that goes to one school is the lest disruptive, best possible option for rezoning WSHS. Heck, their property values might even go up if the split feeder is ended.

My family will not get rezoned in any of the scenarios. But living in that community, it is clear that sending all of Sangster to LB would be the best posdible outcome and least disruptive solution for WSHS, other thsn a residency check, which isn't going to happen.

Sangster doesn't participate in the all pyramid events like all pyramid orchestra or the pyramud fun runs, with WSHS.

Sangster participates with Lake Braddock
