what makes you think you will be paid while furloughed? It is not a given.

Because Congress passed a bill in 2019 stating Fed workers will receive back pay during shutdowns! It is a given unless Trump and Vought break the law, which I wouldn’t put it past them.

Given their track record, I don’t expect them to respect this law AT ALL.

+1 budget for furlough without pay.
And then hear Trump brag about how much money he saved

Absolutely they aren't paying. My DH is a fed and he's being so weirdly nonchalant about this as if he's sure he'll get paid because there is a law. i work in a sector that has been devestated by illegal actions of this administration and think that's incredibly naive.

The latest shutdown memo from OPM says people will be paid.

It says “based on laws currently in effect.” I look forward to the long court case about what happens when they change it and try to apply it retroactively. It’s like recessions but for furloughs!

You expect whatever the Hill negotiates to be a bill that removes retroactive pay for federal employees? In other words, you think the Democrats will vote to end the shutdown for less than they started with?

Even if Republicans blow up the filibuster and pass a bill solo, you realize congressional employees ALSO aren’t being paid during this shutdown, right? Will Congress decide not to pay their staff?

Why does it have to be part of the budget bill? Why can’t it be passed after? And perhaps they exempt essential employees who were working but not those that were furloughed. Do you think “regular Americans” would object to feds NOT getting paid when they don’t have to work? And it would further demoralize the feds. Win-win from their perspective.

You expect that that after an appropriations bill passes, enough Senate Democrats would then vote for a separate bill that requires employees not be paid for the past shutdown?

I hope not. I've lost faith in them.

What incentive would they have to vote for such a a bill after the government is open? Think for one second before you start spiraling into negativity.

Why so much traffic today, roads were packed. I thought you dudes were all home chilling today?

The point you are all missing is that the government won't get unshut down. It's down and out permanently. It suits the executive branch of the current administration to be able to bypass congress. You are now in a one-party system. An autocracy. A dictatorship and the government will never look the same as it did yesterday.

It actually doesn’t because none of the employees in the White House or Congress are getting paid right now.

But the plan is to fire most non essential right? So do you get paid if RIF?

I don’t think that’s true. Vought/OMB wants to accelerate the firings that were already being considered. But a bunch of agencies, even with non-essential personnel, have already hit their “targets”.

They are going beyond the targets.

Who cares about Congress. Trump will make exceptions for White House employees. This is how one party systems operate.

The bots are out in full force. "You must not watch the news" over and over and now you've been given your bumper sticker slogan, so transparent.

Unfortunately for MAGA, they own this. You can't control 100% of the government and blame its dysfunction on your opponents.

Hard to imagine Congress would actually choose not to pay air traffic controllers, TSA, etc. But you never know these days.

Those employees are essential, will be working, and so will get paid.
