My DH just texted me the same- crickets at his agency. Weird.

Same! What is going on? Normally there's a draft for me to send to staff. I've been through so many shutdowns before.

I couldn't believe I didn't have a single email.

So you haven’t been told you are furloughed or anything? You are expected to show up?

DP. That is freaking weird. If you haven’t received a furlough notice, go to work. Maybe your office is funded. I know my DH is working and in pay status still. I’m at a different agency, and no one in my unit is exempt or excepts, so got my notice this morning.

what makes you think you will be paid while furloughed? It is not a given.

Because Congress passed a bill in 2019 stating Fed workers will receive back pay during shutdowns! It is a given unless Trump and Vought break the law, which I wouldn’t put it past them.

Given their track record, I don’t expect them to respect this law AT ALL.

+1 budget for furlough without pay.
And then hear Trump brag about how much money he saved

Absolutely they aren't paying. My DH is a fed and he's being so weirdly nonchalant about this as if he's sure he'll get paid because there is a law. i work in a sector that has been devestated by illegal actions of this administration and think that's incredibly naive.

The latest shutdown memo from OPM says people will be paid.

It says “based on laws currently in effect.” I look forward to the long court case about what happens when they change it and try to apply it retroactively. It’s like recessions but for furloughs!

You expect whatever the Hill negotiates to be a bill that removes retroactive pay for federal employees? In other words, you think the Democrats will vote to end the shutdown for less than they started with?

Even if Republicans blow up the filibuster and pass a bill solo, you realize congressional employees ALSO aren’t being paid during this shutdown, right? Will Congress decide not to pay their staff?

Why does it have to be part of the budget bill? Why can’t it be passed after? And perhaps they exempt essential employees who were working but not those that were furloughed. Do you think “regular Americans” would object to feds NOT getting paid when they don’t have to work? And it would further demoralize the feds. Win-win from their perspective.

You expect that that after an appropriations bill passes, enough Senate Democrats would then vote for a separate bill that requires employees not be paid for the past shutdown?

We’re going to need a presidential crimes commission for when this regime is ousted.

I just checked and almost threw up. What in the fresh hell is that. That blatantly fake propaganda should not be on a taxpayer web page. This outrageous!!!!
I agree, pres crimes commission is needed.

Whoever designed that page forgot to include the banner on top of all US Gov webpages that state that this is an official webpage (and how you can check). Only HUD's of some 20 odd pages did not have that banner.

Any suggestions for small gifts to furloughed staff that I can pickup from wholefoods? Maybe chocolate and coffee beans?

Gift cards, but you'll have to get them at Giant, CVS or Walgreens.

They’re not going to do this.

Even if they were, I don’t think they can do it retroactively to apply to a shutdown that has already happened. Even the latest OPM guidance makes clear that the statute requires back pay.

My furlough notice says it "is expected to last 30 days or less". What happens if it goes beyond 30 days?

DP- my agency usually has carryover funds and furloughs are avoided. But they’ve always communicated as such. This time we haven’t heard anything yet- everyone showed up to work but no one knows what’s going on. Weird.

You are a moron. Do you think you will get any money back as a result? Nope, it will just go to bailouts from Trumps allies.

Has anyone received the threatened simultaneous RIF notice with their furlough email?

I have not received anything like this. Is it a threat to RIF you?

No, but the news and OPM guidance made it sound like people could get RIF notices at the same time as the furlough notice. I’m asking if that actually happened to anyone.

Bills aren't retroactive. The end.

I hope not. I've lost faith in them.

I haven’t heard that happening yet. I imagine that if my agency were planning a RIF, they’d do it regardless of the shutdown … but doing it during the shutdown does make it easier blame politics, instead of just owning it.

It's going to need to be ousted because they won't leave willingly. The HUD website now reads : The Radical Left in Congress shut down the government. HUD will use available resources to help Americans in need.
