He thinks it’s dying at the collegiate level because no one recruited his son and is bitter. |
| Men's lacrosse might be the odd beneficiary of Title IX. The law requires equal opportunity for men's and women's athletics. Getting rid of men's lacrosse would mean either creating new sports for a school which comes with a higher cost per athlete due to scales. Or, a school would have to eliminate the same number of athletes in women's sports which would likely mean 2 women's sports due to the size of men's lax. We know that's not gonna happen. |

No joke on the Culver comment. Last year they had a kid that could legally drink by Prep Nationals. |
I think it is more likely event that schools basically eliminate men's sports except for football and basketball and maybe one or two niche sport a school does well (so lax for Cuse and MD) and balance that out on the women's side based on whatever the Title IX requirements say. Of course, I think the current set up of having a cap on scholarships is an antitrust violation but what do I know. This completely ignores D3 where mens lax is basically a recruiting tool to bring in paying customers. |
Great response. There’s a lot of commentary denigrating the star system but what else do you propose. Similarly, people rag on BIC. It’s delusional to think club play or club recruitment director alone will get your child to a top D1 school. There are just too many tournaments and games for college recruiters to attend. College recruiters are interested in individual talent not team talent. Showcases like BIC in combination with IL ranking provide the best albeit imperfect assessment of individual talent. All you have to do is cross reference BIC attendance, IL star rating and commitment to top programs. It doesn’t mean that the more of these players on your roster will mean a national championship. That’s on the coaches. I will also add that the following criteria are also important: 1 Academic performance at a school with some rigor. 2. Playing on a high school team recognized for player development rather record. 3. Family stability and behavioral risk |
| How are schools judged on player development rather than results? Sounds difficult. |
| Loyola plays Haverford today. Should provide an interesting data point. |

Can only speak to my own experience, but it's fairly straightforward. Many coaches know programs (HS or club coaches) that generate quality players regardless of record. So even if a HS or club program has a "down" year, who shaped the recruit you're considering chasing counts for a lot. Definitely not dispositive - I don't really think any one thing is a clincher for anyone outside a top 20 candidate (however that gets defined - coaching recs? scouting? stars? club/tourney play? media savvy? some or all of that?). That said, academic train wreck or disciplinary problem IS usually dispositive in the other direction. |
Couldn’t have said better myself. |
| Sorry, but using the word “dispositive” multiple times and in your other posts is kinda weird. |
lol. yeah man, we're lax bros and only speak in monosyllables! |
