Hayfield Football Coach Fired

If schools are all or high majority FARMs and ESOL, that doesn't make it "diverse." It would be homogenous. A diverse school would have FARMs AND extremely wealthy people...and everything in between.

So what is the standard for how to figure out the MOST diverse?

Niche. See upthread.

Not really sure "our school has even numbers of rich and poors" is a solid defense for cheating but I guess if that's all they have....

If it wasn’t for the first team mom and the ensuing standoff, prying eyes wouldn’t have been all over the team.

You really think all the coaches they are playing against wouldn't have had some questions?

Here are some amusing comments from the petition:

I’m willing to let a football player use my address to play! Just reach out. My fee is the same as my neighbor’s!

This lady Monet owns a youtube channel that posts fawning videos over Overton. SHe had a long interview with several families where they explained how they transferred to Hayfield to follow the coach:
It’s a complete shame we are HERE!! Where this started and where this has gone is a reflection of EVIL! All of those involved in the “hopeful” downfall of this Hayfield team and Coaches should be ASHAMED of themselves! Nothing good comes from low down scheming! Sickens me!!

the only thing you have against us is a bunch of jack@ss get paid to go to our school

but somebody as important as high school [coach] does it and he brings better players to hayfield to make the team better

This is unjust! I have been driving my son from Prince William county to participate in this great program.

The transparency and diligence we've shown as families have even resulted in some of our boys not being able to play in games this season. Its been admirable to see these same kids show up faithfully to watch on the sidelines during practices and game days just to support their team. But its also been very painful to see the hurt our boys are also experiencing with not having the opportunity to even play their senior year, even after submitting all the requested documentation showing proof of eligibility

Yes, everyone should thank the whistleblower mom for drawing attention to the cheating.

I read above poster to say VHSL focus will be on the coach and school and not the kids, but kids will of course still feel the sting if cannot go to playoffs for 2 years. Sounds like all the band, dance and other seniors already stung by being shut out of recognition night.

Prediction if school 2 year post season ban not appealed: Overton will shop himself to a new school outside of FCPS for next fall. Kids will follow.

He’s not staying at Hayfield in the aftermath of a scandal. If this sticks, Overton is gone and so is the athletic director.

And where is the principal and athletic director in all this?!?! How have they not stepped up and made comments about this mess? I have seen the head coach and assistant coaches (and parents/community) all over social media defending their position. But no word from the principal and athletic director? Come on man! Be a leader!!

This is FCPS...

Can you link to the coaches social media posts about this?

So AC blames it all on one person. Wonder if they think it’s same mom that head Coach talked about on his Facebook?

It’s bigger than her, but they will make it look like her.

Hayfield team chaplain has a change.org petition currently signed by 1000 (no way to tell if kids, adults, double signatures or who is actually located in Hayfield community or even VA), but post here as between AC X post that they did everything right that told to do and petition, get idea of story will present today at appeal. From prior posts, chaplain’s church in Fredericksburg and kids were at Freedom and then Hayfield.

My question- do FCPS lawyers go to these to represent Hayfield?

https://www.change.org/p/save-hayfield-football?recruiter=753431335&recruited_by_id=2cc18310-7a3e-11e7-8f8e-a39c14681703&utm_source=share_petition&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_initial&utm_term=take_next_step&utm_medium=facebook

If don’t want to click thru so doesn’t give petition more views, here some of the bolded parts copied from petition created by one of the Freedom parents:

“VHSL seems to be bending from outside pressure from individuals which has created negative news stories about the school and the head coach, Coach Darryl Overton, by spreading rumors and lies.

I created this petition to send to VHSL to show the Hayfield community's overwhelming support for our coaches, the Hayfield staff and our team AND to express our incredible anger over the potential post-season ban.

VHSL is stealing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for these young men.

Banning Hayfield Football from the State Playoffs would:

Shatter the dreams of dozens of young men who did nothing wrong.

Dissuade other top-notch coaches from coming to Virginia public schools, hurting the quality and competitiveness of Virginia football.

Create terrible optics for the state of Virginia - as the most diverse school in the DMV, a ban creates the appearance VHSL is trying to make the playoffs easier for less diverse schools.“

Hayfield isn't the most diverse school in the DMV.

It is not even close to being the most diverse school in the DMV.

Hayfield is also upper middle class, full of dual fed/contractor/military/trachers households, just like most of that part of Ffx.

Hayfield is average for diversity, so how is diversity part of their argument?

According to Niche, the go to authority on school rankings, Hayfield is the #1 most diverse school in the DMV. I think the entourage believes it helps the case against the VHSL.

Isn't Niche entirely co.prised of randos posting their opinions?

Hayfield is NOT the most diverse school in the DMV. How silly to use such a verifiable lie as part of their argument.

Some of those (especially the one admitting to driving the kid from PWC each day) could just be people messing around. As far as I know, you don't need to prove your identity to sign a change.org petition.
Anonymous
oh the PWC one is definitely a joker and the one about paying kids (I hope!), and the use my address guy,
Anonymous
So the hearing is today? When do you think they will actually decide by?
Anonymous
here's verification of how the other seniors were slighted:

the marching band’s senior night is scheduled for the nov 15th playoff game
No football means we don’t get a senior night…
Anonymous
I think its so strange to have the non-football senior night at a playoff game. I have never seen a school do that before.
