FNG pays reliably the most. But there are lots of startups… SpaceX, Palantir, Uber, Zillow, Robinhood, Databricks, Lyft, Tesla, etc, etc. Most of the time won’t match FNG but will easily pay 1.5-2x what a college grad will make at Northrop or Booz. Then there’s Finance which can pay crazy salaries, even more than FNG in some cases (Jane Street, Citadel). |
Im a SDE at FAANG - and my salary is nowhere near that. I don't think this is true. I'm 29, grad from UVA. And I'm indian. |
Most of it is in RSU's. The salaries are under $200K depending on salary and bonuses. With a clearance you are much better off with the big tech companies. |
I agree. I think some trolls are having fun. |
| I suspect many younger PPs here don’t understand the growth curve on TC in tech. It’s not at all linear. In early years, you might make 90-150k TC. Then at some point, assuming you are continually promoted and at a publicly traded company, you start seeing annual RSU grants in the 100-500k+ range whole base stays around $250. It only happens when you reach a certain level at the company but at that point, the TC growth rate is exponential. |
Well you are getting underpaid. Go to levels.fyi and jump. You can’t expect to not switch company if you are want more money. Amazon recently are giving SDE 2 a TC $300k, maybe you can start there. That’s the sad part of FAANG, they reward new comers more than promotions. Your age, school or race has nothing to do with your TC. If you have been working since you graduate college that would give you 7 yoe. If you’re making no close to $300k at FAANG, then you need to switch. |
There’s a whole bunch of other tech companies that are paying folks with 5-10 yoe over 300k. Dozens of them. |
Really I though SpaceX was a sweatshop and that Lyft/Uber were paying less now that should they are public and need to demonstrate profitability? |
Can you name them? The list above seems more like trendy unprofitable Unicorns… |
Not PP, but I was searching levels.fyi for 5-10 YOE in NOVA/DC area. Below are the companies paying over 300k (total comp) 400k+: Stripe, Netflix 300k-400k: Amazon, Facebook, Bloomberg, Salesforce, Twitter Of course, if you look at the bay area, there are much much more paying above 300k, even above 1M. |
| Fwiw we pay our first year software folks about $200-$300K. Most have a PhD. Several in the $500K range and a few in the $1M+ |
Yes, by dozens I didn’t mean only limiting yourself to the DMV which is pretty mediocre when it comes to tech opportunities. Also I don’t really care if a company is profitable or not as long as they pay well. The fact is if you’re a contractor or Fed here working in tech making 150k you could be doing a LOT better |
I'm just incredibly skeptical of this. I work for one of the highlighted and we are most certainly not hiring in that range. |
Can you pls elaborate more on integrity teams being the new tech battlefield? I work at a smallish tech company and am trying to move to FB but have no idea what projects I should ask to work on in my current company that will beef up my resume for a FAANG company. |
You're skeptical of the levels.fyi information or of my post about levels.fyi? |
